HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-26-2012 City of South Bend Announces Christmas Tree Pickup Locations and Schedule SpU TH 8� r- x x 1865 CITY OF SOUTH BEND PETE BUTTIGIEG, MAYOR OFFICE OF THE MAYOR FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 26, 2012 Contact: Street Department Phone: 574-235-9244 CITY OF SOUTH BEND ANNOUNCES CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP LOCATIONS AND SCHEDULE SOUTH BEND—This year's Christmas tree can be a gift to the environment, and now it is even more convenient to drop off your tree or have the City of South Bend pick it up. All trees are recycled at Organic Resources into high quality mulch, which is provided at no cost to South Bend residents. The Street Department offers three options for the disposal of natural Christmas trees. Option 1: Drop-off—Between Wednesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Jan. 18, 2012, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week, Christmas trees can be dropped off at three designated locations in the city. Signs will be posted to direct residents to designated drop-off points at the following three locations: ❑ Rum Village Park -Ewing Avenue at Gertrude Street ❑ Pinhook Park - 2800 block of Riverside Drive ❑ Veterans Memorial Park -Twyckenham Drive at Northside Blvd. Please Note: Drop off is for Christmas trees only. No trash is permitted under any circumstances. Placing of any items other than Christmas trees is an offense under the South Bend Municipal Code. Option 2: Call-in pickup This service begins on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. The number to call for pickup is 574-235-9244. Option 3: Automatic pickup This will begin on Monday, January 7, 2012,beginning in the northeast quadrant and moving clockwise around the City,through Friday, January 18, 2012. Do not place trees in the street or in alleys. ❑ Please remove all lights, ornaments, and metal, including tree stands or nails,before discarding Christmas trees. Items left on trees can injure employees or seriously damage the tree shredding equipment, leaving it inoperable. :1 Artificial trees and trees containing any metal, glass, or wire, will not be collected and will be the owner's responsibility to dispose. Finally, please note that in the event of snowfall, plowing the streets will become a priority. For further information on Christmas tree pickup,please call the Street Department at 574-235-9244.
