AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 6 OF THE
SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE, ENTITLED "BUILDINGS"
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
To update the regulations on the design and construction of
buildings and structures in the City of South Bend , certain amend-
ments to South Bend Municipal Code , Chapter 6 , entitled Buildings are
required .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I. Chapter 6 , Article 2, subsections 6-5 ( 2) and
6 -5( 3) , of the South Bend Municipal Code shall be amended to
read as follows :
Section 6-5. Adoption of by Reference.
The following rules, regulations and codes are hereby adopted
by reference as fully as if set forth herein to govern the erection,
construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving , improving ,
removing , conversion, demolition, equipping , using , occupying or
maintenance of buildings and structures in the city :
( 2) Indiana Electrical Code , -T9t4 1987 Edition ( 675 IAC 17)
originally published as ( 81R 1010) which identifies, amends and
incorporates therein the National Electrical Code , -I984-1987
Edition.
(5) One- and Two-Family Dwelling Code , -±98)* 1986 Edition.
( 675 IAC 3-2) originally published as ( 7 IR 1870) which identifies,
amends and incorporates therein the Council of American Building
Officials and One- and Two-Family Dwelling Code , -±983-1987 Edition.
SECTION II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption by the Common Council , approval by the
Mayor and legal publication.

RE: Amendment to Chapter 6 - South Bend Municipal Code
Dear Council Members:
The attached ordinance amends Chapter 6 of the South Bend
Municipal Code, entitled "Buildings" . The amendment adopts
by reference the 1987 Edition of the Indiana Electrical Code
which incorporates the National Electrical Code, 1987 Edition,
and the One- and Two-Family Dwelling Code, 1986 Edition, which
incorporates the Council of American Building Officials and
One- and Two-Family Dwelling Code, 1987 Edition. The amended
ordinance will update the South Bend Municipal Code to conform
with the most current state and national codes with reference
to Buildings.
Your favorable action on this amendment will be appreciated.
