Honorable Council Members:
Attached please find a proposed amendment to the Historic Preservation Commission's
ordinance drafted by our attorney, Kevin Butler. The purpose of the amendment is
to allow the Historic Preservation Commission to review National Register applica-
tions for South Bend properties.
Recently, South Bend was designated a Certified Local Government by the U.S.
Department of Interior to allow us to assume some of the preservation tasks
previously done by the Indiana State Historic Preservation Office and to have
more of a role in local preservation issues. One of those tasks is review of
National Register applications. Passage of the attached ordinance will enable
us to begin that program.
We would appreciate your favorable consideration of this matter.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
