South Bend Common Council and School Board Announce Joint
Meeting
The South Bend Common Council and the South Bend Community School
Board will hold their second joint meeting on Thursday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m.
at The Century Center (Recital Hall), 120 S. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd
in South Bend, according to an announcement made today by South Bend
Common Council President Karen L. White and South Bend Community
School Corporation Board President John Anella. The meeting is open to the
public and attendees will be able to ask questions and/or comment on the
content of the meeting.

Both elected bodies will come together to discuss their respective roles,
visions and revitalizing our schools, maintaining our city’s momentum, and
providing necessary tools to ensure our youth are successful and productive.
South Bend Mayor James Mueller and South Bend Community School
Corporation Superintendent Dr. Todd Cummings will also take part in the
discussion.
“It's imperative that schools and city government work together through a
collaborative and comprehensive approach for the betterment of our children,
our schools and our City. This need to do so, was affirmed at the historic
joint public meeting held on February 25, 2020. Unfortunately, the COVID-
19 global pandemic impacted our ability to move forward as planned,” Said
Council President Karen White. “I am pleased that on June 17, 2021, the
South Bend School Corporation and the Common Council will introduce and
discuss a joint resolution that will provide a framework for the transformative
power of both entities working together.”
“When we came together in February of 2020 little did we know what the
future had in store for us. The events of the past year only reinforces the
importance of the City and South Bend Schools working together to build a
