Petition filed for an Electric light at the corner of Rex street and Ashland ave.
City Engineer reported on the Communication of Nary A. Brehmer regarding
the,grade of the sidewalk in front of her property of South Bend avenue and Notre
Dame avenue. Copy of; report was sent Mr. C. A. Brehmer.

The Board met in Special,session at 7:15 P. M. Mr. McInerny absent.,
Hearing was given on Declaretory resolutions for the following Improvements,
Cement Curb on College street from Washington street to Linden avenue, Grade, Curb
& Walk on Quincy street from Cottage Grove avenue to Allen street, Curbs & Walk
on Campau street from Coquillard street to Eddy street, Grade, Curb & Walk on William
street from Indiana avenue to Blanche street, Scott street from Indiana avenue to
Blanche street, Taylor street from Indiana avenue to Blanche street, Franklin street
from Indiana avenue to Blanche street, Bissell street from Arthur street to Eddy
street, Grade & Curb on Vistula avenue from Kline street to the City Limits at
Ernsperger street. All under improvement Resolutions Nos. 215, 216, 217, 2193 219,
220, 221, 222, 22.3 respectively
In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed
The Board thereofor find in each and every case in said improvements that the
benefits to the property effected and to the city of South Bend are equal to the
estimated cost of said improvements and that said improvement resolutions should be
and the same are hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and approved.

In the matter of the improvement of Vistula avenue under Improvement resolution
No. 223. Be it resIlved that notices be published in the South Bend Daily Times and
the South Bend Daily Tkibune on the 5th day of October and on the 12th day of
October 1904 to the effect that this Board will receive bids for said improvement
up to 10 A. M. on the 15th day of October 1904. This Board reserves the right to
reject any and all bids.
Hearing giveon on Assessment rolls and final estimate for the following
improvements, to -wit;- Grade, Curb & Walk on Orange street from alley east of Adams
street to Sadie street, on Blaine avenue from Michigan avenue to S. end on Blaine ave.
Pipe sewer on Napier street from Maple street to Walnut street. Alluunder improve-
ment resolutions Nos. 194, 2062 207 respectively.
Hearing on Orange street Grade, Curb & Walk held over until Tuesday October llth
at 7:15 P. M.
No remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed The Board therefore
find that the property assessed in said rolls filed September 21st 1904 is benefitted
in the amount of assessments as shown on said rolls and the Board.of Public Works find
that the assessments rolls filed September 21st 1904 and the -'final estimate allowed
September 21st, 1904 should be and the same are hereby in all things ratified,
confirmed and approved.

Engineer reported grade on Oakland street from Mishawaka avenue to the St.
Joeeph river . Same was approved.

Petition filed for the continuance of the sidewalk and curb on N. Lawrence
street to the end of the street, including front of what is known as the
Glover property.
Hearing given on Condemnation Resolution No. 17 adopted the20th day of September
1904, condemning and appropriating the following described property, to -wit;
The use, occupancy and rental for the peroid of One year of fifty feet off of
and from the South side of Lot One in -#ecks addition to the City of South Bend; and
more particularly described as 50 feet of sand lying just North of E. Jefferson
street and West of Emerick street in said city of South Bend.
Messers George Beck and John Beck through Attorney Hoban filed a remonstrance.
The Board overrulled the remonstrance and after due consideration find that
said resolution No. 17 should be confirmed and the above described property should
be and the same is hereby condemned and appropriated to provide a temporary
thoroughfare and public street across said property.

The Board met in regular session at 10 A. M. All members present.
Bond of Tom M. Bauer filed and approved for the following improvements;
Bissell street Grade, Curb & Walk , Taylor street Grade, Curb & Walk, William street
Grade, Curb & Walk. Contracts were signed for same.
Plat of Sub -Division of Out lot D in &lingle's Michigan avenue addition, filed
and approved.
Communication filed by Hon. Andrew Anderson regarding certain property lying
West of Lafayette street adjoining Leeper Park. Referred to the Engineer.
Engineer filed assessment rolls and final estimates for the following street
improvements, to -wit;
Pipe sewer on Marietta street and Bronson street,.Grade, Curb &
Walk on Sixth street from Washington street to Linden avenue, Cement walks and Curbs
on Frances street from Colfax avenue to LaSalle avenue, all under improvement res. Now
1952 2059 202 respectively.
Resolved that notices as to the amount of assessments be published for six
consecutive days in the South Bend Daily Times and the South Bend Daily Tribune
commencing on the 12th day of October 1904, stating that the Board will give a hearing
on the amount of assessments at its office in the City Hall at 7:15 P. M. on the
25th day of October 1904.
Resolved further that the entire work under the above contract be accepted
and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this resolution shall
be published on the 12th day of October 1904 in the South Bend Daily Times and the
South Bend Daily Tribune, stating that this Board will give a hearing upon the
acceptance of such work at its office in the City Hall on the 25th day of October
1904 at 7:15 P. M.

Gentlemen; --
We herewith submit to you the following proposition, namely; To
remove the present structure now maintained over the right of way and tracks of the
Indiana, Illinois & Iowa Railroad Company at the point where the same passes under
Portage avenue in the City of South Bend, being a frame bridge; and we propose to sub-
stitute therefor and to construct and maintain at said point a frame bridge to be
built in accordance with the specifications outlined and appearing upon the plat No.
27512 hereto attached and made a part hereof. We further propose to finish the work
of constructing said bridge and to complete said structure ready for public use on or
before the 15th day of April, 1905. It is understood, however, that the above prop-
osition, so far as the time for completing the work is concerned, shall not be
binding upon us unless the grades of the respective approaches to the bridge on
Portage avenue shall be altered by the proper municipal authorities so that upon
the completion of the proposed bridge the same may be property connected with the
altered grades in the street required by the changes herein proposed.

Hearing given on Declaratory resolutions for the following improvements, to -wit;
Pipe Sewer on Robertson street from Prairie avenue to alley East of Chapin street,
'"oodward avenue from Hudson avenue to California avenue, under improvement resolutions
Nos. 224, 2252 respectfully.
In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed. The
Board therefore find in each and every case in said improvements that the benefits to
the property effected and to the City of South Bend are equal to the estimated cost of
said improvements and the same is hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and approved.

Improvement resolution 224 & 225 Be it resolved that notices be published in the

and on the20th day of October 1904 to the effect that this Board will receive 'kids
for said improvements up to 10 A. M. on the 25th day of October 1904. The Board reserves
the right to reject any and all bids.

Arthur street, N. Jackson street from Washington street to Linden avenue, trading

lutions Nos. 211, 201, 193, 194 respectively.
No remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed The Board therefore find
that the property assessed in said amended rolls filed September 27th, 1904 is benefitted
in the amount of assessments as shown on said rolls and the Board of Public Works find
that the assessment rolls filed September 27th 1;04 and the final estimate allowed
September 27th, 1904 should be and the same are hereby in all things, ratified,
confirmed and approved.

Plat of Mayr's Michigan avenue Addition to the City of South. Bend, filed
and approved.
In the matter of the Condemnation of 50 feet off of the South Side of lot
No. 1 in Hecks addition under Condemnation resolution No. 17, The Board having
entered into contract with the owners of said property for the rental of the same for
a term of months, the said Resolution No. 17 is hereby recinded and the proposed
condemnation is hereby abandoned.

Communication received from George Cutler Co of Chicago, Illinois regarding the
laying of a sidetrack to their proposed factory from the Grand Trunk Railroad on
Division street, which track would cross Notre Dame street.
Communication was referred to the City Engineer.

Bids were opened and referred to the Engineer for tabulation for the Grading
and Curbing of Vistula avenue from Kline street to the City Limits Ernsperger Street.
Bond of M. S. Rogers filed and approved for Grade , Curb & Walk on Scott street
and Curbing on College street. Contracts were signed for same.
Bond of Headley Bros filed and approved for Grade, Curb & Walk on Franklin
street. Contract was signed for same.
Bond of Barnes Bros filed and approved for Grade, Curb & Walk on Quincy
street. Contract was signed for same.
Bond of McSherry & Baer filed and approved for Walks and Curbs orv-ftmpau
street. Contract was signed for same.

-Tuesday October 18th, 1904.
The Board met in regular session at 10 A. M. All members present.
M. S. Rogers awarded contract for grading and curbing of Vistula avenue from
Kline street to the City Limits at Ernsperger street. Contract price ...... $1,854.34.
Klingel estate was given a rebate of $5.09 on the Blaine avenue Walks owing to
an error -in the number of feet frontage.
IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 226.
Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana; That an
improvement be made of the kind, size, location and terminal points as follows; The
construction of cement walks on Lawrence street, East Side, from Howard street to
Napoleon street and on the west side from St. Vincent street to Napoleon street. Said
Improvement shall be known and designated as THE LAWRENCE STREET WALKS and shall be
constructed according to the plans and specifications prepared by the City Civil Engineer
filed herewith. Notice of this resolution and proposals for bids for the execution of
the above work shall be published on the 19th day of October and on the 26th day of
October 1904, in the South Bend Daily Times and the South Bend Daily Tribune. This
Board will give a hearing on this resolution at its office in the City Hall on the
1st day of November 1904, at 7:15 P. M. and will receive bids up to 10 am on the
2nd day of November 1904.

Comes now C. H. Defrees and ekihibits to this board a written assignment
by John W. Donahue of all rights and interests in and to the contract for street
improvement of Notre Dame avenue under Improvement resolution No. 210 which said
assignment is of record in the Comptroller's Office of this City and said assignment
is now by this Board in all things accepted and approved.
And this board hereby notifys the City Engineer to order and compell the
immediate performance of said contract by the contractor or his assigns.
Comes now C. H. DeFrees and exhibits to this board a written assignment by
John-W. Donahue of all rights and interests in and to the contract for street
improvement of Carlisle street under Improvement Resolution No. 212 which said
assignment is of record in the Comptroller's office of this City and said assignment
is now by this Board in all things accepted and approved.

Petition filed by the South Bend Cold Storage Co -asking -permission to place
a galvanized iron hood above the Poor of their proposed building to be located
