MAYOR BUTTIGIEG TO SPEAK WITH MAYOR OF TUSCALOOSA TODAY
SOUTH BEND Mayor Pete Buttigieg will speak with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox this
afternoon to talk about the 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game between the Notre
Dame Fighting Irish and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The championship game will be held
January 7, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Mayor Buttigieg will speak with Mayor Maddox via phone from the Mayor's Office at 4:30 p.m.
to discuss a friendly wager over the game.
The mayors know each other and Mayor Buttigieg was at a presentation earlier this year where
Mayor Maddox outlined his community's response to the devastating tornadoes that hit the
Tuscaloosa area in April 2011.
In addition to a friendly wager between mayors,the South Bend Fire Department has entered
into a friendly wager with the Tuscaloosa Fire Department. If Notre Dame wins, South Bend Fire
Department personnel will receive Tuscaloosa Fire Department "duty shirts." If Alabama wins,
South Bend will send down SBFD "duty shirts."
