Agenda: Bill No. 62-12 Amend Code Ambulance/User Fees
For this joint committee hearing Dr. Fred Ferlic, Chair of the Health&Public Safety
Committee served as chairperson.
The one item on the agenda was Bill No. 62-12, a request initiated by the Fire
Department to increase Ambulance and user fees. Fire Chief Steve Cox explained that
the fee schedule had not been adjusted since 2008. In that Medicare adjusts
reimbursement fees annually to reflect the inflationary costs of providing medical
services and the FD fee schedule is based upon Medicare's, an adjustment to our
schedule to reflect these increased allowances was warranted. As a side note the Chief
said he was looking into a bill which would allow annual reflective adjustments
automatically. Chief Cox went on to explain these fees typically go into fund#288 which
is used for department capital expenses from trucks, to tires,to training facilities.
Some Councilmembers felt the City Controller's office be present to answer fiscal impact
questions. In that the fee change could be continued as their effective implementation
was 2013 that is what the Committee elected to do.
Councilmember Scott motioned the bill be heard at the next meeting on November 26,
2012. Karen White seconded and all agreed.
There being no further business to come before the Personnel &Finance Committee and
the Health &Public Safety Committee at this time, Chairperson Dr. Fred Ferlic
adjourned the meeting at 5:36 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dr. Fred Ferlic, Chairperson
Health&Public Safety Committee
