AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
APPROPRIATING ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ( $100,000.00)
FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT OF FREDRICKSON PARK PROPERTY
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The Common Council of the City of South Bend has
determined there is a need to secure a professional, expert
environmental assessment of certain park property within the City,
commonly known as the proposed Fredrickson Park site. The Common
Council of the City has further determined that monies to pay for
securing such an environmental assessment shall be appropriated from
the Water Works General. Fund, to be administered by the Department of
Public Works.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. The sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars
( $100,000.00) is hereby appropriated and ordered set apart out of the
Water Works Fund to be used for cost related to an environmental
assessment of that park property commonly known as the proposed
Fredrickson Park site. This appropriation shall be administered by
the Department of Public Works as set forth below:

effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval
by the Mayor.

Re: Fredrickson Park
Dear Councilman Zakrzewski :
The attached ordinance requests the appropriation of
$100 , 000 from revenues of the South Bend Water Works . The
funds will be used for investigation of the possible contam-
ination of the proposed site of Fredrickson Park. A contract
with the environmental consulting firm of Tenney Pavoni will be
entered into by the Board of Public Works to perform the
necessary groundwater and soil analysis . On February 7th the
City began identifying and testing any private wells in the
vicinity of the park site.
We will keep you and the Council members apprised of the
action taken by the City on the possible pollution problem.
