AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $17 ,842. 00 FROM THE CENTURY CENTER
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE PURPOSE OF
REPAIR OF THE HEATING BOILERS AT THE CENTURY CENTER FACILITY
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The Century Center facility is owned by the Civic Center
Building Authority and leased to the City of South Bend and is
managed under the control of the Century Center Board of Managers.
The Century Center Board of Managers has determined that
it is in the best public interest to repair the boilers of the
Century Center facility, specifically, retubing both boilers,
installing a new refractory, and adjusting the burners, etc.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I.
The amount of $17,842 . 00 is herby appropriated and ordered
set apart out of the Century Center Preventive Maintenance and
Improvement Fund for the purchase and installation of the
following:
a. Repair of the boilers, including
retubing of both boilers
b. Installation of new Refractory for
both boilers
c. Checking and replacing the doors,
repairing/replacing the linkage
and adjusting the burners for both
boilers.
TOTAL $17,842.00
SECTION II .
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage by the Common Council and Approval by the Mayor.

Request for Ordinance
It is requested that you consider and give approval of an ordinance
appropriating a maximum of $17 , 842 . 00 from the Century Center
Preventive Maintenance and Improvement Fund. This appropriation of
funds is for the necessary repairs and renovation to place the
Center ' s boilers in good operating condition which includes:
replacing deteriorated refractory, complete retubing, installing new
gaskets, replacing linkages and bushings, introducing soft water to
the boiler feed, and cleaning and adjusting burners of both boilers,
including labor and parts.
