and found this application to be appropriate according to the Standards
pertaining to Local Historic Landmarks and/or Local Historic Districts.
Regulations pertaining to the Historic Preservation Commission are
found in Chapter 21 (Zoning), South Bend Municipal Code and Chapter
26 of the St. Joseph County Code.
The issuance of this certificate does NOT in any manner, release
the recipient from the responsibility of complying with the requirements
of the zoning ordinances, building codes, safety codes, ADA or other
requirements of the City of South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, the
State of Indiana, or the United States Federal Government.
This certificate is good for one year from the date of issuance and
is effective from the date entered herein. Plans are on file and open for
public inspection at the office of the Historic Preservation Commission of
South Bend and St. Joseph County, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., Suite 1400
S, South Bend, Indiana, during normal business hours.

Hi, we use type s cement and sand for mortar joints and cement crown is sand , Portland and concrete, top flue liners
are on top of chimney to hold covers on. This chimney is in bad shape, this chimney has been repaired a lot. Thanks

Thank you for the Certificate of Appropriateness application for chimney repointing at 16581 Chandler
Boulevard, attached. I apologize that we haven’t connected – I attempted leave a voice mail last week
and so did my colleague Adam but the voicemail box was full. This project is anticipated to be an
Administrative Approval upon receipt of a complete application. From the checklist, please provide the
following documentation (and I apologize in advance if any of this information is written in the yellow
quote, I am not able to read it):
‐ Written description (existing condition, evaluation by repair professional)
‐ Photographs (full front from street, each side affected by project, close up detail of project area)
‐ Specification of material (either manufacture brochure or link to product online) for the mortar
and any other visible new component such as the top flue or crown, if applicable
You can email or hand deliver the documents, which ever you prefer. The COA can be issued within two
business days (sometimes within hours) of complete application.
Also, I attempted to copy Mr. De Kever on this message but didn’t have a good email address. I was able
to leave him a detailed voice mail however.
