Purpose of Request:
This is a budget request for up to $50,000 to be used for a water main connection and construction of an
irrigation system at the El Campito Child Development Center. The funds will allow for a contractor to be
hired and supplies to be procured for the irrigation system, which will be be designed and installed by the
EG30010 students in a volunteer day at the end of the Spring 2021 semester – approximately April or May
2021.
This project is a partnership between the Notre Dame EG30010 Community Based Project Leadership
Course, El Campito, the Near West Side Neighborhood Organization (NWSNO), and the City of South Bend.
This irrigation system will help to kickstart the efforts of El Campito and the NWSNO of irrigating the
existing community garden as well as set them up for future expansion into their community farm master
plan, which will benefit the students and parents of the El Campito community and residents of the
surrounding neighborhood.
