PURPOSE OF REQUEST: As part of the on-going My SB Parks & Trails Initiative, a series of public space
investments throughout the entire city, Seitz Park and adjacent river walk are being redeveloped. These
public amenities enhance and complement the dozens of private development projects happening in
the immediate vicinity. The major Phase I elements of this project include a reconstructed Riverwalk
from Colfax Avenue to Seitz Park, and a new boat portage, a restroom building in Seitz Park, a
performance pavilion, landscaping, and upgrades at the East Race launch. Seitz Park serves as a critical
connection point of the Riverwalk network, linking the east and west sides of the downtown. We are
requesting $1.3M from River East TIF.
The Seitz Park Redevelopment project is additionally funded through a combination of the previously
passed Parks Bond and private sources, including a partnership with the University of Notre Dame.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2022 and last throughout the year. An additional
phase is planned in 2022 to improve connectivity and safety between Seitz Park and Howard Park.
