Redevelopment Commission Agenda Item
DATE: October 8, 2020
FROM: David Relos, Property Development Manager
SUBJECT: Budget Request (former Salvation Army Bldg)
Funding Source* (circle one) River West; River East; South Side; Douglas Road; West Washington; RDC General
*Funds are subject to the City Controller's determination of availability; if funds are unavailable, as solely determined by the City Controller,
then the authorization of the expenditure of such funds shall be void and of no effect.
Purpose of Request:
This budget request is for roof repairs on the one and two story sections of the former
Salvation Army building, along with further work on the building’s boiler system. The one
story section serves as the City’s Weather Amnesty program, with the two story section
providing its water service. It is therefore necessary for the two story section to be heated
and remain in good repair.
Because of leaks in the building’s roof, a new roof is needed on the two story section and
an elastomeric coating on the metal, one story section.
Because the boiler system continues to not function properly, new thermostats and valves
on the many radiators need inspected and replaced as necessary, along with inspection
and maintenance on the large, second story air handler.
Staff requests approval of a budget in the amount of $210,000 for these necessary
repairs.
