Regulations pertaining to the Historic Preservation Commission are
found in Chapter 21 (Zoning), South Bend Municipal Code and Chapter
26 of the St. Joseph County Code.
The issuance of this certificate does NOT in any manner, release
the recipient from the responsibility of complying with the requirements
of the zoning ordinances, building codes, safety codes, ADA or other
requirements of the City of South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, the
State of Indiana, or the United States Federal Government.
This certificate is good for one year from the date of issuance and
is effective from the date entered herein. Plans are on file and open for
public inspection at the office of the Historic Preservation Commission of
South Bend and St. Joseph County, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., Suite 1400
S, South Bend, Indiana, during normal business hours.

– Supporting documentation for the garage roof repair
Google image showing the former appearance of the garage (larger
structure) juxtaposed with corn crib structure to its left (with tarp)
Edited Google image highlighting the “hip” that had been in place in
a feeble attempt to shed rain water and snow. This was a source of
deterioration at the edges and underneath, and of course contributed
to the degeneration of the corn crib as a whole. When removed, the
damage was revealed and now needs repair/replacement.
Mock-up of the current state after the approved demolition and
reconstruction of the corn crib with a gap (arrow) between the
buildings, and a new roof of approved materials on the corn crib
(image is not reflective of true colors).
Summary: Technically this is a continuation of the approved restoration work after separation of the
corn crib from the main garage, but because a tear off and replacement of entire roof is both the
professional recommendation as well as the most cosmetic procedure, that is what we are applying for.
