ORDINANCE NO. a)3051-9 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AMENDING THE MONTHLY INSURANCE CUSTOMER RATE ADDRESSED IN CHAPTER 17, ARTICLE 6, SECTION 17-49 (a) OF THE SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT The Bureau of Waste Water collects monthly charges from water service customers which are deposited in a separate fund. This fund is used solely for the repair and/or replacement of leaking water service lines and shut off valves. The purpose of this Ordinance is to amend the rate of this monthly charge from sixty-four cents ($.64) per month to ninety-eight cents ( $.98) per month so as to eliminate a negative cash balance situation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: Section I. Chapter 17, Article 6, Section 17-49 (a) of the South Bend Municipal Code shall be, and hereby is, amended to read as follows: Section 17-49 Assessment of charges; deposits in separate fund, purpose. (a) The sum of sixty-fell -eents-+$9.64} ninety-eight cents ( $.98) per month shall be added to the water service charge of all water users. (b) All of said sums of money so collected shall be deposited in a separate fund of the Bureau of Waste Water and said fund shall be used solely for the repair and/or replacement of leaking water service lines and shutoff valves. Section II. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor and legal publication. The increase is needed as a result of a steady increase in the number of repairs . This increase in rate is the first adjustment in eleven years.
