RE: Encroachment into Public Right-of-Way
Townhouses
Dear Mr. DeSalvo:
The Board of Public Works, at its meeting held on July 14, 2020, denied your request for the
installation of a sign for Golden View Townhouses at Lot 4 Almond Ct., Notre Dame Ave. Minor
and requested you work with the South Bend Zoning Board to find an alternate location.
Community Investment stated this proposal is prohibited within the current zoning district by
the South Bend Zoning Ordinance. They also stated that the South Bend Zoning staff would be
glad to assist with an alternate proposal that better integrates the sign and is permitted by the
zoning. The Engineering Department agreed and stated the tree lawn should be limited for use
by public and private utilities, trees, streetlights, and traffic signs, and private signs should be
placed on private property, not the public right-of-way.
