The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St.
Joseph County has approved the following work:
Replace multiple types of existing fence (chain, picket, metal
temporary) with 5-4 x 8 Cedar Diamond Lattice Top Fence
Panels set with 4"x4" beams. Approximate dimensions: 24 feet
along the North side of the backyard, 60 feet along the East and
32 feet along the South. Fence plan does not extend past the
front facade. Three gates will be installed (north side of house,
side yard; south side of house, side yard, and at the south
western/alley facing side of the lot).

the recipient from the responsibility of complying with the requirements
of the zoning ordinances, building codes, safety codes, ADA or other
requirements of the City of South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, the
State of Indiana, or the United States Federal Government.
This certificate is good for one year from the date of issuance and
is effective from the date entered herein. Plans are on file and open for
public inspection at the office of the Historic Preservation Commission of
South Bend and St. Joseph County, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., Suite 1400

1. Written description (existing condition, evaluation by repair professional)
This project is a replacement and extension of a fence to enclose the backyard at 723
Park Ave, South Bend. The existing fence is a combination of 3-foot picket, metal temporary
and chain-link fences. The project will standardize all three sides of the backyard with the same
design.
2. Overview of project (materials, scale, dimensions, construction methods, alterations,
etc.)
The material will be cedar fence panels, solid to a height of 5’4” and lattice above for 8”. The
fence will run for 24 feet along the North side of the backyard, 60 feet along the East and 32 feet
along the South. There will be three gates of the same material (one at each side of the house
and one at the alley). Posts will be pressure-treated 4 by 4 lumber dug to 4 feet depth and set in
concrete below ground level.
