(Lance Roush, CGP) have a combined level of experience serving multiple markets of over 40 years. As window replacement is not always necessary, on the occasions that it is, we feel that we are uniquely suited to work on projects of interest to the commission. Itis our philosophy that architecture can be preserved or often times brought back with new technology. We approach most of the sensitive projects with products from Marvin Windows & Doors of Warroad, MN. Marvin Windows & Doors as a manufacturer has positioned themselves in the world marketplace as a leader in providing the latest technology available for energy efficiency, while maintaining historical correct features. We typically suggest our aluminum clad exterior products in the Ultimate Product Series simply because they are so architecturally correct, and maintenance.free. There is no other product commercially available that incorporates the modern benefits with historic features. And in the situations where the Aluminum Clad exterior won't be appropriate (due to color or some detail that we can't match in aluminum), Marvin is one of the last companies that still takes the wood exterior market seriously (However, we typically suggest an alternate species like mahogany, or fir over pine for durability). It is our opinion that we are of benefit to the commission rather than "one of those evil window replacement companies" because of not only our unique skill/product set, but also because we --- value -and -respect the commissions authority. -There are multiple projects listed on the resume' page that were well on their way to performing work without the commission's blessing. It was only after we discussed the ramifications with them that they consulted the commission. It is not Quality Window & Door Co's position that all windows need replaced, in fact, there have been many visits to homes that ended with them calling Schoberg in Plymouth. In a market where there are many contractors, franchises, and independent dealers selling windows without regard to your governance, we always consider first whether a structure is under your jurisdiction in the typical geographical areas. Began reorganizing the Conference Room files with Elicia. Contacted Commissioners to determine a quorum for HPC meeting. Attended 7:00 HPC Meeting; there was not a quorum. Rearranged the meeting scheduled for today with DaI1 Coy in East Wayne and LWE LHD for Thursday. 1 March Met with John Embrickson, St. Joseph County Engineer and Director ol'building maintenance concerning the proposed work on the 1897 County Court House. On-site visit and photographed representative area for gutter replacement also photographed t section of damaged gutter in the maintenance departincnt. Issued an RME COA for the in-kind work. Requested large recycling bin for Office for discarding duplicated and outdated materials. Researched the public sculpture for Roo Bosco of Media Ventures, Inc. for corrections or additions for their publication. Declined to be an interested party in the 106 Review for the Tyler Road Bridge #65. Arranged to meet with Aaron Getz in Edgewater LHD to review tree work proposed by AEP and Asplundh. Sorted through materials in Conference room. 2 March Met with Aaron Getz of AEP and Bill with Wayne. Toured the sites in Edgewater and noted the places where COAs would be required for removals. COAs not needed for trimming. Wayne and I photographed for Code violations the Following: 533 River a Truck parked in a public alleyway for over 2 weeks noted by Aaron Getz. 549 River has a broken attic window, peeling paint and a deterioratiIlg porclr cool. 709-711 LWE has been vandalized. No Trespassing sign is posted in the front but the rear has been broken into repeatedly and remains open. 705 LWE has a notice posted as well, but open access was noted on the second floor through a window and there was furniture discarded in the rear. Wayne had the roofers at 519 Edgewater conic to the Office for a RME COA for the roof they were tearing of and re -applying. Arranged a Special Meeting for Monday March 7 at .5:00; posted notices and made sure the legal would be in "Thursday's Tribune. Emailed all Commissioners, petitioners and presenters of the iic%v date aIld title. 3 March Spent the morning with Wayne and Dan Coy of Asplulldh Trees touring L. Wayne Street on foot to identify the trees proposed for removal and the afternoon in the Lincoln Way East district. Stiff attended Lunch and Learn at the Library on the History of' South Bend with Travis Childs. Spoke with Doreen Mesccar about repair and in-kind replacement wort: she proposed for 517 Edgewater; sent her COA loans. 4 March Prepared paperwork for the Tree Removals for Commissioner review oil Monday. Completed and c -mailed public sculpture report for Media Ventures for their publications. Met with Lance Roush of Quality Window and Door and placed him on the March 21, 2011 Agenda to show die Commissioners the new custom wood Marvin window replacement product. Sent the County Commissioners the letter requesting their permission for Staff to leave St. Joseph County for the Preservation Conference Apr116-8. 7 March Received Brent Thompson's report on 1241 LWE tree removal. Prepared COA for the removals for Dan Coy. Meeting with Llicia and Dana Groves of' Historic Ncw Carlisle about the May Winslow workshop with the Schobergs. Composed mento for Dennis Andres, Executive Director for the Morris, concerning the restoration of the north brick wall. Sent information to Zach Heine of Miracle Engineering about the windows at Central High School Apartments with a request for dates and times of an on-site meeting. Participated in the Special HPC meeting at 5:00. 8 March 7:30 Rotary Foundation Meeting. Prepared COA for honicowncr at 537 Edgewater and c -mailed the Kokot's concerning the door at 715 Park; also left voice message. Prepared blanket COAs for tree removals in the utility easements in Edgewater, East Wayne and Lincoln Way East. Received all Inquiry about re -roofing the landmark at 60649 Hickory Road from David Coleman of Safeguard on behalf of City Financial. Faxed COA application to 502-5389897. Completed the paperwork on eleven 106 Reviews. Met with Charles Olmstead former owner off515 E. Jellerson, a honk lie placed on the National Register In the early 1980s. He was concerned about certain covenants not being Inaintained or adhered to. The Office has no Information beyoIId the survey cards on this property and referred him to David Duval in Indianapolis. He did say that he would bring in the National Register nomination so that we could copy it and have a more complete history of the house. 5:30 Presentation at Green Drinks at the PotawatoInl Conservatoires. 9 March E -nailed Nicole Brunette a Local Contractor Listing. Met xvith David Fazio of Auricl about the irregularities on die Edgewater LHD addresses on the Permit System. Completed 19 106 reviews. Emailed Ezra, State 'Theatre Group and Opera LaSalle the Contractor Listing. E-mailed Carla Myer from Remax HPC website link and provided info on 1130 E. Wayne Street via fax. Began processing Doreen Mesecar COA=RMF, for 517 Edgewater, Wayne to take photographs. E-mailed response to Jerciney Rosheck on I,ift Station location changes In Leeper Park. Attended the BSS13 meeting at 5:30. 10 Marchi Personal Day 11 March Met with Dave Relos and Matt Secora of Community and Economic Development on Rizer House, 803 W. Washington, owned by Joliii Friesllinc and provided research materials. City Is contemplating purchasing It. Prepared payroll paperwork. Completed COA_RME 517 Edgewater paperwork and two 106 Reviews. Attended Historic ""'luncheon in Walkerton at the Walkerton Museum at 413 Michigan Street, Spoke with Mr. Robert Silver (574 210 5626) answered his inquiry concerning being appointed a Commissioner. Spoke with Jeff Dierbeck about replacing the garage doors iii -kind at 850 Forest. 2 14 March Participated in the Northern Indiana Center for History Finance Committee. Met with new archivist, Kristen, prior to the meeting to review the Slacks. Completed registration for the Historic Places Conference in Indy. Researched Information on 1723 South Bend Avenue for Chris Gasko. Sent Contractor listings to Simon and Joel Barrett. Researched inquiry about the Cafe Navarre in the American trust Building. Contacted homeowners at 1515 E. Wayne via c -mail and 1130 E. Jefferson by letter concerning Asplundh tree removal. Firmed up meeting with West North Shore residents for 15 March. 15 March 7:30 Rotary Board Meeting. Attended 10:00 am CouIIty Commissioners meeting for approval of travel and transportation expenses for the April 6-8 Conference. Attended Patrick Furlong's lecture on the Rise and Decline of South Bend. Prepared information on the Erosion abatement plan for West North Shore, recommended trees listing; collected information about restoration of street. light posts from Russ Luchies versus replication. Attended the 6:30 p.m. West North Shore neighborhood meeting with Elicia Feasel that included Carl Littrell and Gary Gilot. It was a very productive meeting key issues addressed were trallic, erosion, trees and street lighting. Of the nineteen occupied homes in West North Shore, 17 homeowners were present. Also discussed the CSO 25 cabinet on W. North Shore that. concerned the Dvoraks, Baurer-Mc Connells among other neighbors and spoke with Gary Gilot afterward. 16 March Sent an e-mail to Patrick Henthorli about the CSO25 box being so visibly ugly when the COA required screening. Spoke with Dave Switzer, I&M/ALP on a contact person at I&M for the light post issue; he referred me to Bruce Griffcy 574.596 4871 (cell) and Jonathan Burkc of the City. Dave explained that I&M has been working with Public Works to try to have Historic lighting in districts -but there are at least 12 different styles of' light fixtures and nothing ever was resolved. However, since East Nllayiic and West North Shore have similar light posts there may be some economics to creating a replica with concrete and modern coatings. HPC can look into grant possibilities as well. 'Poured the new Transpo Headquarters -Platinum LL'ED certified facility. Worked on 1114 L. Wayne window issue and o -mailed Commissioners; homeowner, Dr. Jennifer Lackinan, and mailed hard copies of Information to her. Contacted Lance Rouse oII the status of the order. Research 1723 South Bend Avenue with Chris Gasko, 011ice did not have information as It was IIot part of the City. 17 March Prepared the presentation for Lunch and Learn. Presented Industrialist Neighborhoods at Lunch and Learn and answered questions. Spoke with Patricia Gable afterwards; visited her address and two oII Colfax that had a similar feature oI a \window In the chimney, researched her house at 3102 Miami to determine if Austin and Sliambleau designed it. Emailed her that we could not verify it. Received an e-mail From Jennifer Inickman requesting the Contractor Listing, sent an e -copy. Spoke with Lance Roush of Quality Glass about her windows and learned that the order had not been placed and will not be placed until the Commission approves it. 18 March Received the CLG Annual Report from Steve Kennedy for calendar year 2010. Began to compile information for both the City and the County CLG reports. Completed one 106 Review. Followed up with Tim Klusczinski about possible replacement candidate for Todd Zeiger. Followed up with Patrick Henthorn on CS025 in the West North Shore LHD. Followed up Nvith Pat Gable on 3102 Miami. 51 Assistant Director's Resort HPC Meetina 03.21.2011 1. City Cemetery National Register Nomination -Researching early City Engineers. Continue editing. Prepare resource map. Editing photos and adding to body of research. Microfilm work at SJCPL. Working with City Clerks office to pull ordinances/resolutions from archives. Pulling Sanborn maps from digital source. Correspondence with Carolyn Strutner of DAR regarding her review of nomination and making some changes based on her review. Re -forward partial nomination to Commissioners for brief discussion during March meeting. 2. Attend 02.28.2011 HPC meeting, prepare draft of minutes and forward to Commissioners (this meeting was canceled due to lack of a quorum). Revise as requested. Print minutes from February meeting for March meeting. Print commissioner and liaison mailing labels. 3. Organizing conference room in office and resource center. Working on a plan to hire an intern for making the resource more useful to the public. Engage IUSB archivist/librarian Alison Stankrauff regarding an intern position. On March agenda for discussion. 4. RMS 2010-2011 Window Restoration Production -Develop letter to hardware stores and preservation groups in the Michiana area asking for participation ,to get the window message out there. Expand Michiana Area contacts. Develop marketing timeline and plan of attack. Correspondence with WNIT, Grassroots, and Todd Zeiger regarding uniformity of graphics, sounds, and fonts between the two videos. Calling on Public Relations and Community Education committee for relief. Meeting with Tim K. and Dave S. 5. RMS 2011 -Historic Wood Window Restoration Workshop with HNC: meeting with Dana Groves. Correspondence with Schoberg Restorations. Meeting at 122 W. Michigan Street, New Carlisle to assess windows for workshop. Follow up with Dana. In attendance were representatives from 17 of the 20 houses in district, Gary Gilot and Carl Littrell of the City. 10. Research Minkler Hardware Store for a Notre Dame class and make copies of findings for student pickup at Office. 11. Street Naming project of Derek Dieters -Duplicate V.18 No.2 The Old Courthouse News: A Journal of Northern Indiana History for Derek. This journal has a publication titled: History Can Be Found On Every Street Corner by Joyce Armstrong -La Buda and is similar to a project Derek wants to see to fruition.
