Sante Public Forums scheduled to gather public input on Proposed New Comprehensive Plan for South Bend and St. Joseph County The Area Plan Commission of St. Joseph -County has scheduled its final public forum to receive input concerning the final draft of the proposed New Comprehensive Plan for South Bend and St. Joseph County. The purpose of this meeting is to present the proposed draft to the elected officials of the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, and the Towns of Lakeville, New Carlisle, North Liberty, Osceola, and Roseland as well as -members of the Study Review Committee for comment. The public is also invited to attend this meeting to review the proposal and offer comments. This will be the final opportunity to comment on the plan before it is presented to the Area Plan Commission, and various County, City, and Town Councils for adoption. The Comprehensive Plan is a tool to guide St. Joseph County and its municipalities into the future. It is a policy document that sets the vision for the county for the -next twenty years. A variety of means were used to garner input from citizens and public officials on their vision of the community, including -public meetings, focus groups and a telephone survey. The Comprehensive Plan attempts to map out areas in the County that are suitable for growth of the -various types of land uses; residential, commercial, industrial, etc. while preserving those elements of the community that city and county residents value the most. The forum is scheduled to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the fourth floor Council Chambers of the County -City Building in downtown South Bend on Wednesday, November 14, 2001.
