Approval of Minutes Mr. Nimtz made a motion to accept the minutes of December 13, 1982. Mrs. DeLaruelle seconded; motion carried. 4. Treasurer's Report Ms. Kiemnec reported.that in order,to pay Ms. Fackelman for the last -week of De- cember,six hours or $21.00 was taken out of the Small Town Survey account -which was not shown on the December Treasurer's Report. Mr. Nimtz made a motion to accept the report; Mrs. Choitz seconded; motion carried. 5. Correspondence a. a Preservation Law Reporter for November b. a Preservation Law Reporter Index of Cases c. a December "Community Newsletter',' d, an HLFI "Preservation Progress" newsletter for December e. Preservation News for January, 1983 a f, a Practising Law Institute program brochure on/tax exempt financing and planning seminar to be held in March and April g. a letter from appraisor M. Richard Cohen, seeking information on facade easements for a paper he is compiling January 17, 1983 Page 2 h. Public Relations & Community Education 1) County Maps Mr. Oxian reported that Southhold Restoration's Board should know by February whether the business they contacted will fund a reprinting of the County Auto Tour Maps. f. Environmental Impact Statement 1) 68437 Pine Road Mrs. Jamie VandenBossche, who is interested in purchasing the landmark house at 68437 Pine Road, reported that on going through the building, she found it to be sadly neglected and in deteriorating condition. Ms. Kiemnec reported that the Building Commissioner was made aware of the condition of the house. He sent his inspectors out and they verified it, whereupon he sent the owner, Mrs. Lilovich, a letter asking her to secure the building. Mr. Oxian made a motion to send the owner a letter requesting her to secure the building to to stop further deterioration; Mrs. Choitz seconded; motion passed. 2) Union Station Mr. Wasielewski reported that he and Ms. Kiemnec attended a Code Enforcement Public Hearing on Union Station which the owner did not attend. Ms. Barnard, the Director of the Department, will keep trying to contact the owner and inform the HPC of any further correspondence. g. Staff Report 1) Small Town Survey Ms. Kiemnec reported she is nearing completion of the Small Town Survey for the February 1st deadline. Mrs. Sporleder, Mrs..Choitz and Mr. Oxian volunteered to help proofread the survey. cards. She further reported that January 17, 1983 Page 3 three copies are being made of the cards: one index type paper copy for the office; a bond paper copy as a duplicate; and a bond paper copy for each of the towns. 2) City Survey Ms. Kiemnec reported that .521 Bronson, the Southold Heritage Field Office, and 521 E. South Street, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Gary Mester, both in Monroe Park, have been added to the City Survey with S/11 ratings. In addition, the rating of 607 Park Avenue was upgraded from a C/10 to S/11. It is a Freyermuth and Maurer -designed structure which was originally owned by the son of Christopher Fassnacht. h. Annual Report The Annual Report for 1982 was distributed by Ms. Kiemnec. 7. Old Business a. Downtowm:Buildings Ms. Kiemnec reported that the Preservation Conference planning is underway. The target date for it is early the week of May 8th which is Preservation Week. 8. New Business a. Elections Mr. Nimtz reported that the Nominating Committee had nominated: President, Ted_Wasi,elewski;_V-ice-Pres-ident, John__Oxian;Secretary,_ Joan n__Spo-rl_eder;and___ Treasurer, Duke Newburn. The.nominations were opened to the floor and when none were suggested, Mrs. Choitz moved that the nominations be closed and the secretary be .instructed to cast a unanimous ballot.for the nominees; Mrs. DeLaruelle seconded; motion carried. Mr. Nimtz instructed the secretary to cast a unanimous ballot and declared the nominees duly elected. He further reported that the Nominating Committee recommended that the Commission make more use of the committee structure and that the committees be more active in the future. b. President's Report Mr. Wasielewski reported that he will call a caucus to discuss 1983 goals and committee assignments;: before the February meeting. At the next meeting, he will announce committee appointments. c. Hedgerows Mrs. Sporleder asked for action on the hedgerows. She will do research to determine ownership and report back to the Commission. d. Darden Bridge Mrs. Sporleder expressed concern about the landmark Darden Bridge and its lack of maintenance. She reported that a study was done by an engineering class at Notre Dame in the past,.but a current study of stress and amount of rehabilitation needed should be done. She suggested that the HPC write to the County Engineer requesting that he have his department study the condition of the bridge. Included in the letter will be our recommendations for restora- tion and use and copies will be sent to the County Commissioners and the County Co un c i 1 . e. Studebaker Driver's Club Mr. Oxian suggested that the HPC prepare a list of former Studebaker Houses in January 17, 1983 Page 4 South Bend for the National Meet to be held in South Bend this summer. Mr. Hayes proposed that the Commission put together an 8-f' x 14" brochure with a tour map and list of.such homes for the occasion. f. 120 S. Michigan Mr. Oxian made a motion that the HPC request of the Redevelopment Commission that a joint study be made of the building at 120 S. Michigan (first building north of the Griffon Book Store, it is owned by the city) as a possible model downtown restoration project. The city, HPC, and any other interested preser- vation groups could participate in the project and it could be part of 'the program of the May Preservation Conference. Mrs. DeLaruelle.seconded; motion carried. Mr. Hayes and Mr. Nimtz abstained from voting. 9. Hearing of Visitors (see #6 Environmental Impact Statement) 10.
