4. Correspondence
John Stamper presented various correspondence: County Ceta is now
soliciting for Public Service Projects. The deadline is July 1,1980.
We will attempt to make use of this in the near future.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation has .sent a sample brochure,
dealing with preservation legislation.
Also received was a Flyer from the Historic Landmarks Foundation of
Indiana. regarding a "Town Tour in Rensalear". on June 26th.
Neighborhood Conservation and Reinvestment. Has asked us to join for
$75.00 a year. With Mr. Stampers' recommendation the Commission decided
against joining. It was stated that if we wanted to we could get
copies from Jim Connelly.
The Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana has invited Mr. Stamper to
attend a meeting next Friday, June 27th with a focus on a Preservation
Workshop for the State Survey. Ms. Price and Mr. Stamper will attend.
5. Committee Reports
Mr. Stamper read a letter form Dick Gantz, State Historic Preservation
Officer, which stated that the survey is due September 30, 1980, and that
e must use all the funds allocated in order to advoid recapture.
Mr. Gantz asked that any other expenses be turned in by July 1, 1980.
The mockup of the city survey was presented by Mr. Stamper. The final is
expected to be in two volumes; the first will include a brief history
of the city of South Bend along with recommendations and an explanation
of the format, and the second volume will consist of the city survey
inventory along with maps and a legend.
Ruth Price moved that the Publications Committee meet to study the survey
book format. Member will consist of:

The meeting of the committe will be June 24, 1980 at 7:30 p.m. on the
11th Floor of the County -City Building.
Mr. Stamper also stressed a need for a secretary to type up the book.
Ruth stated that she would try to find volunteer help.

6. Budget and Finance
According to Mr. Stamper, no word has been received from the county or
the city on the budget proposals.
7. Historic District and Standards
Mr. Reinke expressed an interest in a sign for each district. This
question was tabled for further discussion.
Ruth Price made a motion to set up a committee of interested parties
to meet with Community Development, and Redevelopment on plans for the
St. Joseph Street area. Mr. Oxian stated that we should reaffirm our
desire and earlier agreements that St. Joseph Street and Carrol Streets
should be an historic district. The motion was admended by John Appleton
to limit the disscussion of the meeting to the St. Joseph Street area,
and not discuss other districts. The motion and admendment were approved.
Mr. Oxian, Ms. Price, and Mr. Stamper will attend the meeting.

8. Old Business
Mr. Oxian stated that Smuthhold Restorations, Inc. approved our request
for a grant for the survey of the small towns in St. Joseph County.
Mr. Stamper stated also that the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana
has agreed to help match the anticipated Department of Natural Resources
grant.
