BILL NO. //
ORDINANCE NO. 8 '7 -
AM ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING CHAPTER 20, ARTICLE 6, SECTION 20-
100. 1 (b) OF THE SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE ADDRESSING
"PARKING BY FIRE HYDRANTS PROHIBITED"
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
On February 22, 1993 , the South Bend Common Council passed
Ordinance No. 8358-93 which created new Section 20-100. 1 of
the South Bend Municipal Code which specifically prohibits
parking by fire hydrants.
Since the passage of that Ordinance, the City Engineering
Department has determinded that appropriate markings on the
curbs as opposed to appropriate signage should be used as a
more cost effective way of implementing this Ordinance.
Accordingly, this Ordinance incorporates the necessary
amendments for these markings to take place.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
Section I . The Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, hereby amends Chapter 20, Article 6, Section 20-
100. 1 (b) of the South Bend Municipal Code , to read in its
entirety as follows:
fb) Appropriatc signs giving noticc of this parking
(b) Appropriate markings giving notice of this parking
prohibition shall be made by the City.
Section II . This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and
approval by the Mayor.

Ann Puzzello Re: Parking by Fire Hydrants
Chairman,Committee
of the Whole Dear Council Members:
You will recall that at our last meeting in February
Stephen Luecke the Common Council passed an Ordinance prohibiting
First District parking by fire hydrants. More specifically, it
prohibited parking within fifteen (15) feet with
Cleo Washington violators being fined Fifty Dollars ($50. 00) .
Second District
As a part of that Ordinance we included a paragraph
Roland Kelly requiring appropriate signs. The City Engineering
Third District Department has determined that signage throughout the
AnnPuzzello City for fire hydrants would be cost prohibitive. They
Fourth District are recommending that this Ordinance be amended to
include appropriate markings instead of signs. It is
Linas Slavinskas anticipated that painted curbs indicating the No
Fifth District Parking Areas would be used.
Thomas Zakrzewski Tha attached Ordianace incorporates this recommendation
Sixth District for your review and passage.
