SOUTH BEND FIRE FIGHTERS VOLUNTEER IN LOCAL SALONS
SOUTH BEND The South Bend Fire Department and South Bend Firefighters Local
362 are partnering with two local salons to help raise awareness and funds for breast
cancer. The South Bend Fire Department and South Bend Firefighters'Local 362
launched its annual pink t-shirt campaign last month to help support a local charity,
Young Survivors.
South Bend Firefighters are volunteering at the following local salons to sweep, serve
beverages, and help the salons:
• Saturday, October 6 at Tru Salon Spa located at 3520N. Bendix from 8:00 a.m. to
12:00 p.m.
• Thursday, October 11 at Nicholas J. Salon and Spa located at 1251 Eddy St. Suite
108 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Members of the South Bend Fire Department will wear the campaign T-shirts during the
month of October while on-duty. The proceeds from the pink t-shirt campaign will go
toward the Young Survivors group in South Bend. The South Bend Fire Department is
selling the shirts at the Central Fire Station at 1222 S. Michigan St. The shirts will also be
available at Local 362 Union Hall at 4025 Lincoln Way West. T-shirts cost $15 and all
proceeds from the shirt sales go directly to the Young Survivors group.
Young Survivors is a group that provides clinical breast exams, mammograms, and
diagnostic services for women who are under 40 and do not have access to mammograms
because of their age. They also provide a support group for breast cancer patients. The
Fire Department Administration and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF)
Local 362 are leading support for this effort to raise awareness and funding for local
women.
