AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $ 932,000.00
WITHIN VARIOUS ACCOUNTS OF THE LOCAL ROADS
AND STREETS FUND
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In order to meet existing and proposed traffic demands and to provide for safe and
efficient movement of vehicles, certain improvements are needed within the City of South
Bend, Indiana. These improvement projects are Project # 9262-Paving and Slurry, for street
improvements. Project # 9332 is for design costs of sewers, pavement, and right-of-way
acquisition for the widening of Twykenham Road from S.R. 23 to McKinley. Project #9002
is for continued design of sewers, pavement and right-of-way acquisition for the widening
of Ironwood Road from Ireland to Ewing. Project # 9307 is for the widening of Portage
Avenue from Cleveland to Bendix. These funds are available from the Local Roads and
Streets Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. The following sum of money is hereby appropriated and ordered set apart
from the Local Roads and Streets Fund for the projects in the amount set forth below:

9332 Twyckenham - U.S. 23 to McKinley $ 25,000.00
9002 Ironwood - Ireland to Ewing $ 331,000.00
9307 Portage - Cleveland to Bendix $ 116,000.00
Section II: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.

Dear Councilmen:
The Department of Public Works is requesting your approval of the attached ordinance
appropriating funds from the Local Roads and Street Fund to various projects. These projects are:
Project #9262 - Paving and Slurry - $460,000.00
These funds will be used to buy materials to be used to pave and slurry seal the many streets
in South Bend in need of maintenance.
Project #9332 - Twykenham Widening - $25,000.00
This is for the construction of the Twykenham Widening and Storm-Sanitary Sewer Project.
These funds will go toward supplemental engineering design agreements and right-of-way acquisition.
Project #9002 - Ironwood Widening - $331,000.00
This is for the construction of the Ironwood Widening and Storm-Sanitary Sewer Project from
Ireland to Ewing. These funds will continue the design and the right-of-way acquisition on Ironwood.
Project #9307 - Portage Widening - $116,000.00
This is for the construction of the Portage Widening from Cleveland Road to Bendix Drive.
These funds will be primarily the construction costs for the actual widening.
