AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 1, SECTION 2-10 (i) (1) OF THE SOUTH
BEND MUNICIPAL CODE ADDRESSING STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE SOUTH
BEND COMMON COUNCIL
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The South Bend Common Council has eleven (11) Standing Committees which review
and make recommendations on proposed ordinances and resolutions which are referred to them
by the Council. One of the current standing committees is the "Parks, Recreation, Cultual Arts
and Entertainment Committee".
The following ordinance would amend the title of this Committee to the "Parks, Arts,
Recreation and Culture Committee" so that it can have the acronym "PARC" Committee.
Now, therefore, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, as follows:
Section I. Chapter 2, Article 1, Section 2-10 (i) (1) of the South Bend Municipal Code, shall be
amended in its entirety to read as follows:
(i) There shall be eleven (11) standing committees of the South Bend Common
Council. These committees and their area of jurisdiction are as follows:
(1) Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture (PARC) Committee: Overseeing
the various activities of the Century Center, Regional Museum of Art,
College Football hall of Fame, Morris Performing Arts Center,
Department of Parks and Recreation, Studebaker Museum and related
activities.
Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the
Common Council and approval by the Mayor.

I am submitting for your consideration a proposed ordinance to change the
name of the Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee to
the Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture Committee. This is a change in name
only. The scope of the Committee's responsibilities will remain the same.
The objective of this bill is to create a simpler, less linguistically taxing title for
the Committee and one that lends itself more readily to an acronym (PARC)
befitting the Committee.
I hope you will give this bill favorable consideration. If you have any questions
feel free to contact me.
Respectfully submitted,
Sean Coleman
