Accommodations for children will disabilities will need advanced notice. We do not supply diapers. Childcare staff are not allowed to change diapers. However, staff will notify parents of soiled diapers, request they change them as soon as possible. A private changing area will be available for parents to use. All parents are required to check in their child with the staff. Please allow time for this so you can make it to your class or appointment If your child becomes ill, extremely unhappy, or unmanageable, you will be paged to the child watch immediately, so be sure to let the staff know what area of the facility you can be located. It is advised that no items other than blankets, bottles, etc., should be brought from home. We are not responsible for items (Toys and/or books) that are forgotten, lost or stolen. No snacks allowed. Absolutely no sick children will be accepted into child watch. Please see the “Recommendations from Exclusion” Staff and volunteers will be certified in child/adult CPR, AED and First Aid, they will also have a national background check done before working with any kids. 13 Discipline Policy Discipline helps to guide children to this more mature behavior. Our staff will work to recognize and meet the age-level characteristics and needs of children. We will give appropriate choices, arrange the classroom to be developmentally appropriate, clearly define limits and expectations, give children positive suggestions and directions, and redirect children to help them make good behavior choices. In the event a child is having problems with behavior, the staff will offer redirection, verbal warnings, and/or possible removal from the situation. If the problem persists or is severe, the child will spend a time-out in the room. If further action is needed based on severity or persistence of the behavioral issues, a parent conference with the director may be required. We also have a biting policy for our program. After a child bites, the parents are called to report the incident and the incident is documented, after the second incident the child will not be allowed in child care for one week. After the third biting incident, the child will be removed for two weeks. If a child bites the fourth time, he/she will be removed indefinitely. 14 Recommendations from Exclusion from Childcare Area Illness that prevents the child from participating comfortably in program activities Illness that results in a greater need for care than the staff can provide without compromising the health and safety of the other children. Fever (usually 100.4 F), frequent cough, persistent pain (ear, stomach, etc.), lethargy, irritability, persistent crying, difficulty breathing, or any other symptom of possible severe illness. Children must be fever-free for 24 hours without being medicated before returning to childcare. Children who have experienced reoccurring diarrhea and/or vomiting, must be 24 hours free from symptoms. Mouth sores, including those associated with drooling, unless the child’s physician provides written confirmation that the child is noninfectious. Rash with fever and/or behavior changes, unless the child’s physician provides written confirmation that the illness is not a communicable disease. A child with bacterial “Pink Eye” (thick colored drainage or redness of the whites of the eyes, or under the eyes) may return after 24 hours of treatment. Impetigo, Ringworm, Shingles, and Scabies. The child must be under treatment and the lesions covered before returning to childcare area. Strep throat and Scarlet Fever. A child must be without fever for 24 hours and must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours before returning to childcare area. Head lice, until after the first treatment. Chickenpox, until the 6th day after the onset of rash or until all the lesions have dried and crusted. Whooping cough (Pertussis), until 5 days of the appropriate antibiotic therapy has been completed. 15 Code ADAM If a visitor reports a child is missing, a detailed description of the child and what he or she is wearing is obtained. Specifically, what color and type of shoes the child is wearing. Additionally, all exterior access to the building is locked and monitored; anyone approaching a door is turned away. The child’s name is not requested and is to be ignored if provided. The employee goes to the nearest in-house telephone and pages “CODE ADAM” describing the child’s physical features and clothing. As designated employees monitor front entrances, other employees begin looking for the child. If the child is not found within 10 minutes, law enforcement is called. If the child is found and appears to have been lost and unharmed, the child is reunited with the searching family member. If the child is found accompanied by someone other than a parent or legal guardian, reasonable efforts to delay their departure will be used without putting the child, staff, or visitors at risk. Law enforcement will be notified and given details about the person accompanying the child. The Code Adam page will be cancelled after the child is found or law enforcement arrives. 16 THANK YOU!!!
