The October 8th, 2019 Community/Campus Advisory Coalition (CCAC) meeting was called to order by Councilmember Gavin Ferlic at 3:31 p.m. in the Informal Council Meeting Room located on the 4th floor of the County-City Building, 227 West Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend IN. He advises the student government. Ivan Martinez introduced himself. He is the Student Body President of Holy Cross College. He announced the Ghost Developments event that is around Halloween. It is a treat-or-trick style. All are invited and that day is October 29th at 6:00 p.m. Adam DeBeck introduced himself. He announced that Holy Cross College continues to offer a series of public lectures. There will be a public lecture on October 10th at 7:00 p.m. on Women and the Body of Christ. That is free and open to the public. NOTRE DAME UPDATES/CONCERNS: Jonathan Retartha introduced himself as the Director for Housing Operations and Residential Life. He is the successor of Tony Oleck, who is now the advisor for a Vice President of the University. He praised the success of the fall Off-Campus Engagement and Resource Fair with approximately two hundred and fifty(250) people with a number of represented landlords. There will be a Landlord Summit in the spring and then another Off-Campus Engagement Fair that will follow that Summit. Linde Hoffman introduced herself as the Chief of Staff for Notre Dame's Student Government. She announced the passage of a resolution in the Student Senate that changed the Constitution to require all student leaders to go through GreenDot training. GreenDot is a program working on interpersonal violence and bystander training. They have also started a relationship with L Street Kitchen to try and promote that business. Notre Dame students will now get a discount on certain days of the week. They also created a South Bend Adventure Guide for the student body that is attached to the Welcome Weekend App. It being midterm season, there is not much else going on with regard to programming events but there is a large event coming in the spring. It essentially replaces the TEDx event that was held about two (2) years ago. The licensing for that is complicated and they are starting their own event called Expand. It is a series of lectures and there is an application going around for anyone who would like to speak. That is planned to happen in February. Pam Blair introduced herself. She is with the KROC Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. One (1) of the students in the program is blind and she requested an inquiry into the traffic light at the corner of Angela and Notre Dame Avenue to see if it could become more ADA accessible. She also spoke about the Poetry Den and her aim to get more students involved with that. They partnered with the Snite Museum and every few months they host an event. That is open to everyone and the next one (1) is in November at the Civil Rights Heritage Center. Tim Sexton introduced himself. He stated he had a few updates. The apartment complexes on the east side of SR-23 are now open. One (1) part of the building will open in the spring and the other in the summer. Also, ground has been broken for the new Robinson Community Learning Center. That building will be open by August of 2020. The Notre Dame Center for Civic Innovation had an open house. The building across the street from the Civil Rights Heritage Center is now the home to the Notre Dame Center for Civic Innovation. Their team has substantial interaction with the City of South Bend and even Elkhart. Sixty(60) students from all the different college and university communities volunteer there. St. Mary's, Holy Cross and Notre Dame received a Next Level Trail Grant from Governor Holcomb. The plan is to construct a pedestrian path down the west side of SR-933. By this time next year, the hope is for it to be done. INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTH BEND UPDATES/CONCERNS: Ken Baierl divulged the reason for their absence at the last CCAC meeting- IUSB was installing their new Chancellor on that day as well as the President of the Student Government Association, Rodger Pinto, being in the White House. He also announced his retirement coming at the end of December. He thanked the Committee for their continued commitment to the community. Rodger Pinto introduced himself and announced that he is also the Chairperson for Indiana University student government as a whole. He then briefly explained his trip and his experience at the White House. He announced the passage of an amended Student Government Constitution which consisted of a lot of changes in policies. The Student Government's goal of the year is to 2 look at ways to better reach out to the community. There is a community engagement director in the student government that is looking at different partnerships. He announced that he is the lead intern for the American Democracy Project and they are doing all the debates for the Mayor and Council races for South Bend, Elkhart and Mishawaka. CITY OF SOUTH BEND UPDATES/CONCERNS: Councilmember Jo M. Broden introduced herself and announced her work with Harter Heights. There was a plan revealed in July for some traffic calming measures parking issue solutions. Some of it is in the design phase but some is in the implementation phase. By the end of the year, quite a few items will have been checked off. There are approximately fourteen (14) items that had risen as issues needing to be solved. She claimed that by the end of the year, about half of them should be completed. She then mentioned a meeting she had attended earlier in the week to have residents interface with the beat officers that patrol the area south of Perley School. The aim of that meeting was to build relationships, share information and connect the residents to the ongoing groups that already meet in the area, as well as some City resources. Summary letters of that meeting are available with Councilmember Jo M. Broden. She then announced the introduction of an ordinance for the City of South Bend's Climate Action Plan. Additionally, out of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, there are meetings to try and bring about the opportunity to become a Trauma-Informed City. That would be cross-sector collaboration such as health- care, the judicial system, the schools and local government. She then also mentioned the Zoning Chapter reform and gave kudos to the individuals that have worked on that. Lastly, she announced a Neighborhood Summit to be had on October 19th. It is free and with partners from IUSB. That serves to be an opportunity to connect with not only the neighborhood, but the City of South Bend. Madi Rogers introduced herself. She is an enFocus Fellow working in the City of South Bend's Department of Innovation and Technology. She is also working on a project at Holy Cross. Adam DeBeck asked Ms. Rogers to come. Marlaina Johns introduced herself. She is Interim Director for the City of South Bend's Department of Code Enforcement. The Rental Safety Verification Program has been going well but they are working on getting the information more easily accessible on the website. The overall goal is for one (1) day to become a live real-time map of all the rentals. Right now, the list is updated weekly. Sienna Hurley introduced herself. She is the Project Manager for the Mayor's Office and her attendance was for information absorbing and dissemination. Councilmember Gavin Ferlic introduced himself. He announced his work in the area just south of Notre Dame for Residential Parking restrictions. It becomes quite hectic with Notre Dame home games. Petitions are circulating. Howard Park is opening November 29th.
