No remonsLrants appeared and no remonstrances were filed other than the one filed'at the previous hearing, in which the remonstrators claimed that the Contract- or had left the street in an impassable condition and had not properly removed all superfluous dirt. The City Engineer reported that he' had investi Sated these object -ions and that the Contractor had upon notification, removed the dirt and put the street in a satisfactory condition, and that the work should be accepted. The Central Union Telephone Company ordered to remove wires from the roof of the building at 409 N. Michigan street. President. 597 August 15th, 1903.. The Board met in regular session in the office of the Board of Public Works at 10 A.M. All members being present. City Engineer reported on the condition of the truss bridge over the dry run on Vistula avenue. The condition of the bridge was generally bad. Same was accepted. The street commissoner was instructed to pave all alley crossings on Kosciuszko st. between Division and Ford streets. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Three I to brng their tracks to grade on S. Franklin street; to plank their crossing on Baker street: also, to notify the Grand Trunk Western and The Three I to repair their crossings on Walnut street. Clerk instructed to notify the Gas Company to properly tamp their trenches after i:e aring same up to lay mains. Contracts awarded to Harry N. Barnes on Sadie street, Joseph Swiatowy on Olive street, T.C.Barnes on Bartlett street, Geo. The Board of Public Works met in special session in the office of the Board at 7:16 P.M., present b eing'Mr. McInerny, Mr. Nicar and Mr. Papczynski, City Engineer Hammond and W.F'.Suehanek. The Board had under consideration The Assessment Rolls and Final Estimates for the Grade, Curb and Walk on Notre DAme street, the Trunk Sewer on Prairie and Kemble avenues, the Brick Pavement on Monroe street and the Water Connections on Marion street. In the matter of the Trunk Sewer on Prairie avenue and Kemble avenue, the Brick Pavement on Monroe street and the Water Connections on Marion street, under Improvement Resolutions nos. 57, and 96 respectively.' No remonstrants appeared and no remonstrances we filed. The Board find that the property shown on said roll is benefited in each case to the amount of the assessment shown on said ro11, and that the Assessment Roll ii1eu Aug bt.* and the Final Estimate allowed Aug. 5th., 1903, should be and the same is hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and approved. In the matter of the Grade, Curb and Walk on Notre Dame street under Improvement Resolution +104. Mrs. Weston filed a written remonstrance against "the acceptance of the work by the Board, claiming defective material wus used in the construction of the walk and curb past her property and that same is in a poor condition. The Board postponed the hearing until Friday A.M. and ordered Engineer Hammond to investigate the matter. Meeting adjourned at 8.015 P.M. President. 600 Wednesday.... Aug. 19th, 1903.. Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana: That an Improvement be made ,of the kind, size, location and terminal points as follows: The Brick pavement of the first alley south of Jefferson street, running from Michigan street to St. Joseph street, and the connecting north and south alley from Jefferson street to said'e. ana w. alley. Said Improvement sriali be known and designated as "The Jefferson st. and St. Joseph street alley brick paving, and shall be constructed according -to the plans and specifications prepared by the City Civil Engineer filed herewith. Notice of this resolution .and proposals for bids for the execution of the above work shall be publist on the 22md. day of Aug anu on the 29th day of August, 19030 in the South Bend Daily Times and the South Bend Daily Tribune. A special meeting of the Board was called by the president at 2;30 P.M, All members being present. The Board having under consideration the amended proposition of the of the Chicago and Indiana Air Line Railway Company for a franchise to build its line into the City of South Bend. RESOLVED by the Board that the contract as amended be enterd Into with said Company and presented to the Common Council for adoption. On the resolution the vote stood Nclne rny, Papczynskiq aye. Bids on +7 dose House were opened and referred to Clerk for tabulation. The awarding of the contract was deferred until August 28th,91903. M.C-Westervelt of the Bissell Plow Company addressed a communication to the Board seeking therein the sanction of the Board in permitting him to erect a lateral appro to the proposed Colfax avenue bridge from his factory. The opinion of the Board is that no such approached of this kind will be considered for a minute in this connection. The Towle Realty Company asked the Board to open St. Alexis St. Vincent, Napoleon and instruct the street.commissioner to tear down the fences which have been erected across these streets and to also notify the abutting property owners to cease plant ing corn in these streets. Communication was taken under consideration and investigation. RESOLUTION. The Board of Public Works met in regular session in the Office of the Board at 10 A.M.. A11 members being present The disposition of the bids for +7 Hose House came up for the Board's first attention. For the building of the hose house in generals Joseph Chierharto being the lowest bidder $5385.00 was given the contract for same. The Standard Electric Co-. was given the contract for wiring same, their bid being $33.00. The bids on the plumb- ing and heating were rejected. The Board having under consideration the confusion resulting from error iu housenumbering throughout the City and the' arrors in the numbering in different new additions in the City, the following resolution was unamiously adopted.
