ORDINANCE NO. P7179-9
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND., INDIANA, APPROPRIATING MONIES
WITHIN THE ZOO ENDOWMENT FUND TO BE USED
FOR CAPITAL. PROJECTS AND/OR IMPROVEMENTS AT
THE POTAWATOMI ZOO, CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
FOR THE YEAR 1994
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The Common Council of the City of South Bend has determined
it to be in the best interest of the City of South Bend and to be
in the best interest of the City's Park Department to authorize
and appropriate monies dispersed front the Dorothy Shanafelt
Douglas. Trust and deposited into. the Zoo Endowment Fund to be
used for capital improvements-to the: Potawatomi Park Zoo only,
according to the restrictions of the Dorothy Shanafelt Douglas
Trust. The Dorothy Shanafelt Douglas Trust provided a cash
distribution for 1994 totaling approximately $11,450.04.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL. OF TmE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS. FOLLOWS:
Section. I. The Dorothy Shanafelt Douglas Trust monies
deposited into. the Zoo Endowment Fund shall be and hereby are
appropriated and set apart for the capital projects specified
herein below and according to the restrictions of the Trust.
Capital. Improvements, utilizing funds_ from the Dorothy Shanafelt
Douglas Trust:
1. Construction of a maintenance storage $ 8,800.00
facility addition of 40 feet extension
including garage doors and tram train
storage
2. Swan Lake Islands Renovation - drain lake 2,650.00
and expand islands including many of the
following events: plant willow trees,
rebuild shoreline on both islands with
dirt and gravel, build a primate block
house with concrete floors.
$11,450.00
Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval by the Mayor.

Dear Ann,
Attach is a request to Common Council to review an ordinance by
the South Bend Park Department to authorize and appropriate
monies dispersed from the Dorothy Shanafelt Douglas Trust. These
monies have been received by the South Bend Park Department and
will be funded through the Zoo Endowment to be used exclusively
for capital improvements to the Potawatomi Zoo.
In accordance with the restrictions of the Dorothy Shanafelt
Douglas Trust, these funds for 1994 total the amount of
$11 ,450.04 and shall be appropriated for the following capital
projects. To construct additional maintenance storage facility
extending by an additional 40 feet including garage doors and
tram train storage.
The second project will be the Swan Lake Islands, renovating the
lakes by draining and expanding the islands, including planting
of willow trees, rebuild shoreline and the construction of a
primate block house.
This request comes before you to ask for your favorable vote.
