AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $1,080,000
WITHIN VARIOUS ACCOUNTS OF THE LOCAL ROADS
AND STREETS FUNDS
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT:
In order to meet existing and proposed traffic demands and to provide for safe and
efficient movement of vehicles, certain improvements are needed within the City of South
Bend, Indiana. These improvement projects are Project #9401 - Street Maintenance &
Repair Projects, for street improvements; Project#9402 -Various Design and Construction
Projects; Project #9403 - Railroad Improvements; and Project #9002 - Ironwood Road
Widening from Ireland to Brookmede Street.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. The following sum of money is hereby appropriated and ordered set apart
from the Local Roads and Streets Fund for the projects in the amount set forth below:

9403 Railroad Improvements $ 50,000
9002 Ironwood - Brookmede to Ireland $160,700
Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor.

Dear Council Member:
The Department of Public Works is requesting your approval for the attached ordinance appropriating
funds from the Local Roads and Street Fund to various projects. These projects are:
Project#9401 Street Maintenance& Repair Projects $460,000
These funds will be primarily used to buy materials to pave and slurry seal
the many streets in South Bend in need of maintenance.
Project#9402 Various Design &Construction Projects $409,300
The various design and construction projects anticipated are:
- Design of Old Cleveland Road from Nimtz Parkway to Bendix Drive,
including a signal at Bendix.
- Signal design at these six intersections: Corby/Hickory; ScottNVestern;
Lombardy/Western; Linden/Mayflower; Bendix/Elwood; and
Ireland/Michigan.
-Construction of a left turn lane on Cleveland Road, between Bendix Drive
and Portage Road.
-Concrete street repairs throughout the City.
Project#9403 Railroad Improvements $ 50,000
To improve the railroad crossings at Grant Trunk at Ford Street,
Norfolk/Western; at Kemble Street; and Conrail at Kemble Street. This
includes construction match funding and material costs.
Project#9002 Ironwood Widening $160,700
This is for the construction of the Ironwood Widening and Storm-Sanitary
Sewer Project from Ireland to Brookmede and represents part of our 20%
match.
