Engineer reported drawings and specifications for following Improvements: Cent sidewalk on Sibley Avenue between Johnson and Wilbur streets; also `on College street between Linden and Longley Avenues; also on Diamond Avenue between Laporte and Michigan Avenues; also on the west side of Witwer Avenue between Indiana and Dubail Avenues; also for cement walks and curbs on Rush street between L.S.& M:-S.R.R. and South street. S.. & M. S. R. R. right of way to the south line of South street. Said improvement shall be known and designated as "Rush Street Walks and. Curbs", -and shall be , constructed ;according to the plans and specifications prepared by the City Civil Engineer, filed herewith. Notice of this resolution and proposals for bids for the execution of the above work shall be published on the 4 day of .iebruary and on the 11 day of February 1902 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and in the ,South Bend Daily Times.; This Board will give a hearing on this resolution at its office in the City Mall on the 18 day of February 1902 at 7:15 P. Said improvement shall be known and designated as "Diamond Avenue Walks" and shad be constructed according to the plans and specifications prepared by the City Civil Engineer, filed herewith. Notice of this resolution and proposals for bids for the execution of the above work shall be published on the 4 day of February and on the 11 day of February 1902 in the South Bend Daily Tribune and in the South Bend Daily Times. Said improvement shall be known and designated as"Witwer Avenue Walks" and shall be constructed according to the plans and specifications prepared by the City Civil Engineer, filed herewith. Engineer requested to report on whether -street should be graded President. February 14, 1902, VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 9. Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana: That it is desirable to vacate the following:Beginning at a stake set in the west one- eight section line of Section (1) one, Township Thirty -Seven (37) North, Range Two (2) East of Second Principal Meridian, at a point six hundred fifteen and one-half (615-1/12) feet North of a stone set for the west one -eight corner in the east and west center line of said section one. Said point being in the south line of Angella Street, formerly Leeper Avenue, as located by the City Commossioners in 1895 and recorded in plat book number 6, page 121, records of St. Joseph County Indiana; and running thence east at right angles to said one -eight section line, thirty (30) feet, thence -north eight and nine -tenths (8.9) feet,thence north 78 degrees 39 minutes west thirty and fifty-four hundreths (30.54) feet, to one -eight section line, thence south on one -eight section line fourteen and nine tenths (14.9) feet to beginning, the property of Anne M. Studebaker. Also beginning at the same point as in the description, of tract number one, and running thence north on one -eight section line fourteen and nine tenths (14.9) feet, thence north 78 degrees 39 minutes west, eight and seventy-six hundreths (8.76) feet, thence south 84 degrees 06 minutes west, one hundred sixty-one and six tenths (161.6) feet to a point thirty (30) feet east and seventeen and one -sixth (17-1/6) feet north of the centre of the north end of Leeper Bridge, thence east one hundred sixty-nine and four tenths (169.4) feet to beginning, the property of Samuel Leeper. February. 14 1902 Application of Alexander Lauraine for inspector of, cement work for 1902 filed. Board decided to consolidate the plumbers bonds for street work, water works and for making water connections under -contracts with the .City., But one bond will be re- quired, and same will cover all transactions between plumbers and :the City* 250 February°17, 1902. Petition -for paving LaSalle Avenue on present foundation and no ten .year guar- entee filed and referred to the Engineer. Engineer, reported thAt° there was no foundation under the W. LaSalle Avenue block pavement. -This work was put in without any foundation, except a mixture of loam and sand. Contract signed with H. P. Streicher of Toledo Ohio for the W. Mayne street bri brick pavement, under Improvement Resolution No. 45. Bond for same filed and approved. Clerk instructed to notify the G. T. Western R. R. Co. to please replace the drain near the intersection of Laurel and Division street in order to allow the water to run from south to north. President. 1 251 February 18, 1902. Resolved by the Board of Public Works that on and after April l.st 1902 all teamsters employed by this department shall receive $3.50 per day for man and team; wages of driver of such teams shall not be less than 1.50 per days the same as other city labor. Petition filed for the construction of cement walks and curbs can Stanfield Street from Corby to Howard Street. Contract signed with Haberle and Graham for overhauling and repairing water power pumps at central station and lengthening piston rods, 275.00 President. February 18, 1902. 7:15 P. M. Hearing on.Vacation Resolution No. 8,adopted on February 3rd 1902 for the re`. location of Pennsylvania Avenue between Madison and High Streets,._ No remonstrators app- eared and no remonstrances were filed against the proposed vacation. The Board declare the following described part of said Penns-lvania Avenue vacated: All that portion of Pennsylvania Avenue contained between the second angle east of High street as now located and the west line of YI,aihinstreet, being a strip of land 00 feet wide running as follows: beginning; at said second angle east of High street, running thence south 75-1/2 degrees east 313-1/2 feet, thence north 89-3/4 degrees east to the west line of Miami street. Now comes Martin L. Wenger and waives notice as to assessments and awards and hearings as to such assessments and awards under this vacation resolution. Said Wenger having already dedicated to the city a strip of ground to take the place of the strip herein vacated, the board find that no.assessments or awards shall be made. Said Wenger is owner of all land adjacent to and within 150 feet of said part of Pennsylvania Avenue on the north and south sides thereof and in the opinion of the Board is the only person inter- ested in or affected by these proceedings. Hearing upon the following improvements: Sibley,,Avenue College street, . Rush Istreet;, Niles Avenues Corby street, St. Peter street, Diamond Avenue and Witwer Avenue, under Improvement Resolution 47, 4810 49, 50, 51, 521 53 and 54 respectively. Owing to uncertainty as to whether the Common Council will see fit to appropriate more money for the City's share of street improvements this year. the Board find that this hearing should be postponed until the Council has acted upon this matter, accordingly this hearing is postponed until Tuesday: birch 38th;at 31. do; for the_ execution of this work under the above improvements will not be opened on February 25th but on March 25th 1902. Common Council oii February 24th having adopted the report of the Department of Public Works concerning sewer and water connections on Wayne street, Eddy streets Laurel street and E. Colfax Avenue in advance of paving; under Ordinance No. 1037, ordered that notice be given to property owners by publication in the South Bend Daily Tribune and in the South Bend Daily Times on the 25th and 26th days of .February 1902 requiring such, cozi— nections to be -made within. 20 days From the last day of publication of such notices# Engineer reported grade on Elmira and High streets same approved and filed.. Clerk instructed to notify parties in charge. of . the.. Dremi se s at 405 N_. Park street to repair the sidewalk at once. Engineer submitted a proposedidedication of land by Hon. Andrew Anderson and wife to the city for park and boulevard purposes. The same is a strip about 90 feet wide along the river between Lai;'ayette street and Anderson Court, Chapin Park, and will be a substantial addition to the city's park prospects.
