This money was once part of the Leeper Park Tree Fund, but was appropriated to the General Fund due to inactivity in that account. An opportunity to use these funds has, again, presented itself at Leeper Park. A group of volunteers, from the Northern Indiana Center for History, has been working with the Park Department and a landscape architect to develop a site plan for the area surrounding the Navarre Cabin. Planting indigenous trees and bushes to create a more authentic atmosphere around this historic site is the scope of the project . This will enhance the experience of thousands of school children who visit the cabin for "Cabin Days" every May. The Park Department is pleased to be associated with this group of interested educators and volunteers. It is hoped this appropriation request will receive your favorable recommendation. Please feel free to contact me at 235-9414 should you have any questions or wish to discuss this project further.
