Dashboard User Testing •Feedback: •Confusion on scoring method •Confusion on definition of scoring categories •Too many pages •People understood the point of the dashboard once I talked them through it •Considerations: •This is a primarily internal tool, but one that we want the public to be able to look at and understand Updated Dashboard •Improvements •Adding more context –not a tool to determine what park to go to or to find events •Make scoring less confusing •Link to dashboard •Previous dashboard •Updated dashboard •What Works Cities case study •WWC is visiting at the end of January Next Steps Parks Health Dashboard Timeline •December 2019 •Launch of SB Build With online recruiting •January 2020 •Possible addition of new data•User testing –VPA Committees •February improvements, additional information Launch •Public Version 1.0 •Link to PowerBI dashboard on VPA website •Ideal Public Version •Embedded on each park's page on VPA site –would give more context to the purpose of the dashboard •Would be included as a part of a complete picture of the park –including events, map, etc. •Would most likely require work with vendor Current Projects Recreation Surveys Recreation Surveys Current State •Survey on Contact Us page of VPA website •Long, with many branches •Scope: for special events, programs, and facilities •Surveys for MPAC shows, some events Proposed State •Survey on Contact Us page of VPA website •New Scope: For VPA "fixtures" -places and programs •Good for: feedback with a targeted audience (breadth < depth) •Introduction of SMS surveys •New Scope: For VPA events •Good for: Fast feedback (breadth > depth) •Low barrier to entry; ability to reach more people than a staff member with a tablet •Surveys must be short as questions come one at a time Goals of New Survey Structure •Emphasis on making data-based decisions •Park Health Dashboard in Facilities & Grounds, Recreation Survey Dashboard in Recreation •Every resident, every year •Learning more about our users, but also learn about who we might be missing •Targeted feedback •Faster feedback on events •Good data that's easy to analyze •Build on the work that's been done with the Recreation program audit Recreation Surveys Topic Tool Feedback Distribution Events -one-time program with large audience (Howard Park Opening, Best Week Ever events) SMS •Net promoter score •Favorite features •How did you find out about this event Advertising at the event with the text in number Classes -ongoing program with consistent participants (Fitness Classes) Web survey, paper survey •Net promoter score •Staff knowledge •How did you find out about this class Paper in the classroom, link in a thank you/confirmation email Programs -short term program with changing participants (summer camps) web survey, paper survey •Net promoter score •Staff knowledge •How did you find out about this class Link in a thank you/confirmation email Next Steps Recreation Surveys Learning about our survey - takers •Ideally, we want to know as much as we can about the people taking the survey and be able to link responses between surveys •This would allow us to find more trends –like people who often go to x class also like y event, or people who went to y event are more likely to attend z program •This would help us better track the level of our outreach across age groups, neighborhoods, etc. •Considerations: •Privacy Policy/Data Sharing Policy –in development between I&T and Legal •Length of survey •Limitations of survey platform Implementation •Visualization of Recreation Program audit and including surveys as an extension of that dashboard •Implementation •We want to remain agile with this strategy and change survey length, delivery method, or tool based on response level Potential Projects Economic Impact Study Economic Impact Study •Summary •Using outside partners, VPA would like to measure the financial impact of parks, events, and programming on the local economy. •Goals •Justify recent and continued investment in parks •Learn more about how parks & events fit into and impact the local economy •Use data to make decisions about where to host events, programming •Assist grant and awards applications Economic Impact Study Event Impact Construction Impact Investment Impact Event Impact •Measuring the impact of one-off events •Chamber of Commerce has a formula for measuring economic impact of events •Pro: easy and turn-key•Con: less actionable, less detailed•Result: we get data for press releases •Partnerships for more granule, transactional data (Example Chicago Blues Fest & Mastercard)•Pro: more nuanced understanding of how money flows through different sectors and geographies during different types of events•Con: data sharing complexities•Result: data can point to better decisions, new programs (ex: DTSB) •Can be used for events like MPAC shows, e-sports events, parks events, ND Football weekends, etc. Construction Impact •Impact of construction in parks •Chamber of Commerce has a formula •Library and Potawatomi Zoo have done similar studies recently •Library used Chamber of Commerce formula to show impact of main branch renovation •Potawatomi Zoo used a zoo-specific firm for their main entrance renovation Investment Impact •Measuring the impact of permanent or semi- permanent VPA fixtures in South Bend •$60 million planned investment through My SB Parks & Trails •Our plan is to work with academic institution to study property values, etc. and develop formula to predict impact of future investments Potential Projects Youth Programming Coordinator Youth Programming Coordinator •This position is meant to coordinate VPA youth employment •VPA Youth Employment Program •Focusing on high Programming Coordinator •Potential impact study of position as a 2020 SB Stat topic •If you participated in SBVPA's youth job program are you more or less likely to graduate, enter a trade school, get Grass Citations- •2016: 14.2 days •2017: 11.9 days •2018: 10.5 days •2019: 7.2 days •2020: 5 Day Target •Achieved through a continued refinement w/ Code Processes as well as refining deployment
