II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the Redevelopment Trustees Special Meeting of.June
1 , 1971 , were_ read;.by the Secretary., Mrs.. Guy- P.; Curtis. .On motion by
Mr. Peacock, seconded by Mr. Wertheimer, -the minutes.were unanimously.

III.I REPORT ON PROSPECTIVE COMMISSIONERS AND INTERVIEWS
Mr. James F. Peacock gave a report on-the following candidates

3. Mr. Byron Sheets
4. Mr. Robert Fitch
Of these candidates, Messrs. Toth, Sheets and.Fitch Were eliminated
due o.their heavy schedules and lack of.time.to serve on the Board of
Comm ssioners.
Mr. Peacock reported that Mr. Wade was- - endorsed. by Mayor Lloyd M.
Al1e , and that Mr. Wade is;agreeable-to accepting the position and hasa
the r ecessary background,. -
President Nmtz also, al,ked to Mr: Wade .yesterday and laid Mr.
Wade has had urban renewal experience in St. Paul and Aurora, Illinois,
as w ll as serving on the Urban Renewal Commission in Joliet, Illinois.
He is Regional Manager of Sears, Roebuck and Company in South Bend, Michi-
gan ity and Elkhart, and also has experience in Lansing, Michigan. Mr.

Mrs.`Curtis,interviewed Mrs. Ernestine Carmichael and said.she

Mrs. Curtis said Mrs.,Smelser is a former representative,to the
House, in Indianapolis, for St. Joseph County. She is active as
imunity worker and has a family of four children - -all in school.

Mrs_. Curtis. had also interviewed Mrs. Goldie Ivory who was a
r employee in" the Department of Redevelopment as head of`Reloca-
in the Chapin Street Project, R -29. She is teach -ing and doing social
with -the Elkhart School System.
A discussion followed relative to the three candidates remaining.
IV. COMMISSIONER APPOINTED
Motion was made by Mrs. Curtis that*. Bob`L. Wade be appointed
Commissioner, with Mrs. Anna Mae Smelser as a runner -up in case another
vacancy should arise on the Board of Commissioners. Said motion was se-
conded by Mr. Peacock and unanimously carried.
V. TRUSTEES INVOLVEMENT
Mr. Wertheimer asked 'As 'trustees, what'we can do, and also said
he will attend the Friday Commission meetings.

President Nimtz advised this can'be a matter of individual contact
the Commissioners and'that all the'Truste r es can-'get together-as as a'
or individually, with the Commissioners and they will be glad to
the Trustees' comments. The Commission needs a coordinated effort.

LETTERS APPROVED
President Nimtz asked for approval of letter drafted to Mr. Wilhelm,
cing him for his dedicated services through the years - -both as a
tee and a commissioner. Also a letter is to be directed to Mr. Bob
ide advising him of his appointment as a Commissioner, and the Mayor
notified of the selection. The letters were approved unanimously.
VII.1 ADJOURNMENT
On motion duly made and passed by Mr. Peacock, the meeting adjourned
at 9:20 A. M.
