Sale of land'In LaSalle Park to the South PARCELS #23 -1 AND Bend Pak De artm'ent `R -57 :' =This involved the sale of. #24 -1, SOLD TO SOUTH 349,480 square feet of land, or approximately eight BEND - PARK - DEPT., acres ii the LaSalle Park Project to the South Bend LASALLE PARK URBAN Park Department. On motion by Mr. Helmen, seconded RENEWAL PROJECT, R -57 by Mr. Kompar, authorization was given to sell the above land to the South Bend Park Department, in the amount f $16,423, for Parcels #23 =1 and #24 -1. -4- i i 5. I The .question was raised by Mr. Helmen if the Department will still have to pay rent for the_site office. President Wiggins stated'that we' have - a nominal contract fee of $1.00 per year. "Mr. Bellinger apprised the Commission he anticipated moving the site office sometima during the early summer, secure additional - quarter and the site building can come down. President Wiggins said by 'spring and summer a model rehabilitation . home could be set up and we can anticipate setting tip office space in that. 6. PROGRESS REPORTS a. Mr. Helmen asked the stand on the post office. PROGRESS REPORTS The com letion of the geometric design study by Clyde E. Williams & Associates, Inc. will provide vita7_data on which the U. S . Posh - Off ice can base ° ifs -plans to -- acquire the property in the project for anew $31:6 million f Post Office. A letter has been received from the U.S. Post office and continual interest has been shown for se- curing the property. A firm disposition price is also needed. The reuse appraisals are virtually completed. On question raised by Mr. Helmen on the post office withdra ing, Mr. Bellinger said: "No. I had recent conversation with the Post Office Department, in Washing- ton, D. C., and the interest and conversation is at the same level as it has always been. As to what might trans- pire after January 20th, there are no indications this is going to affect the Post Office's decision at all." Mr. Bruce H mmerschmidt, Commission Legal Counsel, said that until we have the land to sell to them, we cannot do any- thing. There should be no uncertainty to the Federal Government's understanding of this problem, as they have built in other cities in other Urban Renewal Projects. Mr. Bel finger said he is persuaded that procedures and processing is typical and not unique to our city at all. Mr. Hel n asked', if we can speed up acquisition after we get he Part II approved, and Mr. Hammerschmidt said then it can be speeded up - -no problem in that. b. suit wa Hammers fully a the NAA optimis Mr. Kovas asked what the status of the court and whether or not it has been dismissed.
