On m tion made by Mr. Louis, seconded by Mr. Koczan and unanimously
carried, the minutes of the meeting of May 5, 1960 were approved as read,
and the following business was discussed:

The Commissioners reviewed and discussed the budget proposals for each
accouat of the 1961 appropriations. On motion made by Mr. Koczan, sec-
onded by Mr. Louis, and unanimously carried, the Commission approved
the 1961 Budget proposal totaling $102,900, About half of this amount is ex-
pecte4 to be derived from federal sources.

Mr. Nei igh gave a report on the meeting with the School Board and the
Park Board which he and Mr. Baer attended on May 9. The Linden
School Project was discussed and both Boards weighed the advantages,
and disadvantages of financing the project with and without federal aid.
The Board members felt that they would need fifteen acres, preferably
north of the South Shore tracks on Linden Avenue and the project should
also be undertaken with federal aid. It was the opinion of the Board mem-
bers that the delay of one or two years would not be a considered difference
as compared to the cost of the project if undertaken by the Civil City alone.
The Commission agreed that the Linden area should be worked on next, but
planning decisions will be delayed until the Housing Authority has selected
its next site.
Mrs. Curtis gave a report on discussions regarding the site of a second
low -rent public housing project and extended an invitation to the Commis-
sioners to join the Housing Authority on a tour of three proposed sites to
be conducted within a week or ten days. Mrs. Curtis will inform the Com -
missioners of a definite date set for the tour.

Mr. Sucher reported on the survey made by Miss Nowlin of the families
contacted. in the project area, who will be eligible for relocation housing
and have not registered with the Housing Authority. Only four families
out of the fifty per cent of the residents in the project area contacted were
intereste and were not registered. Based on the results of this survey,
the Com ission felt that proper notification and sufficient contact had been
made .
Mr. Sucher also informed the Commission of his investigations of vacant
stores in the a r e a suitable for the field office. Mr. Helmen suggested
that a ho se in the area could be a possible answer to the temporary needs.
Mr. Sucher will continue to contact and investigate.

five -year lease at $275 per month rent for the present office
in motion made by Mr. Koczan, seconded by Mr. Louis, and unan-
arried, the Commission approved the signing of a lease for the
period and monthly rental of $275.
