RE: Alley Vacation — North/South Alley between N. Meade St. and Eclipse Place running
North of Westmoor St. to East/West Alley (Preliminary Review)
Dear Ms. Franton:
The Board of Public Works, at its July 23, 2019, meeting, reviewed comments by the Engineering
Division, Area Plan Commission, Community Investment, Fire Department, Police Department,
and the Street Department.
Per IC 36-7-3-13, the vacation was found to meet all the criteria. The Engineering Division
recommended you eliminate the alley approach by hiring a private contractor bonded with the
City to tear out the approach, replace with curb, and establish a tree lawn in accordance with the
City Standards and Specifications. It was noted re-establishing a curb and tree lawn would result
in improved street drainage, improved aesthetics of the streetscape within the neighborhood, and
leave no doubt the alley is vacated with the approach removed.
Therefore, the Board of Public Works submitted a favorable recommendation for the vacation of
this alley, subject to Engineering's recommendation being completed.
Please contact the Permit Department at 574 2 5-92 4 prior to Vicking tip, your radius
map. You will need a radius map showing properties within 150' of the proposed vacation for
your petition to the Common Council. Once you pick up the radius map, proceed to the City
Clerk's office for your alley vacation packet.
