South Bend Common Council _________________________________________________________________ July 19, 2019
Dear Community Leaders You have led much discussion, and most recently, a call to action to address the needs of our neighborhoods that have been historically underserved. We know the
challenges we face. However, how do we collectively articulate and address them, so that real change can take place? Furthermore, how do we ensure that those directly impacted are fully engaged and at the table? As Chair of the Residential Neighborhoods Committee of the South Bend Common
Council, I am committed to working with each of you to address the quality of life issues that threaten our neighborhoods. The scope of this invitation will focus on specific areas of South Bend’s First District, and all of its Second District A second meeting with specific neighborhoods associations will follow and focus
on the third and sixth districts. I strongly believe there is power when people come together around any issue that is clear, any cause that is just, and any purpose that is righteous.
• The purpose of this meeting, first and foremost, is that each of you has opportunity to share your ideas and needs for your neighborhoods.
• You will also be provided information on the investments to date (last three
years) and future plans.
• Immediately afterwards, your responses will be reviewed for any and all commonalities; which will then be presented at the upcoming Budget Hearings.
• Representatives from the City’s Administration and South Bend Community School Corporation will also be present; to hear your ideas and needs, and answer the questions you may ask.
• I am working now to deliver related information, ahead of time, so that you
may prepare your ideas and any plans and proposals.
The meeting will be held on Monday, July 29, 2019 at the Charles Black Recreation Center, 3419 West Washington St., South Bend, IN 5:30 pm - 7:30pm. I ask that you block this date/time/location on your calendars. An agenda along with the discussion format will be emailed the early part of next week.
