Yourrecords will show that this company agreed to pay the city.of South Bend for the curb which was installed about one foot outside of our rails between the above points. The Highways Materials Company.has requested me to write you stating that our x willingness to pay them direct for this work instadd of paying the city. Robertson, South Bend , Ind . Dear Sir Answering yours of Dec. llth.. relative to fire damage. on the Auditorium Theatre Building. As per your request, I made a thorough inspection of this building and find that while fire was- -tremely hot, the damage was almost entirely to the contents- of the building; furniture, seats, carpet's, draperies, etc., and some of ,the interior wood worm such as window and door casings, balcony and gallery railings and boxes, and a very small section 'of the main floor. There is no damage whatever to the general construction Walls were not effected at all. In fact there is no damage that in any way effects the strength of the building - with the exception of a new floor joist and they are only slightly burned on one edgge and can be very easily re -placed. Structural and supporting members are in no way effeeted Part of the finish coat of plasterly is slightly damaged from excessive heat and water.` The general construction o this building is, concrete, foundation, heavy .masonry brick walls, cast iron columns, and steel girders supporting -the wood floor con- struction, of 3X14 joist. -Main roof and ceilings are supported on heavy steel trusses spanning full width of Auditorium, supported on heavy steel columns built in masonry walls and resting on top of concrete foundation. Roof is covered with tar and gravel roofing.,' Interior.of.building is plastered on wire lath with asbestos fiber plaster. The building-.r is equipped with a very complete sprinkler system, in basement, and store rooms on first floor, ws well as in corridors and passage ways. These sprin*lers are exposes under the ceilings. Throughout the Auditorium there is a complete sprinkler system in the space` between the main floor and the store room ceilings, also in the space between the Audi-, torium ceiling and roof. While the fire in this building was probably the hotest that has ever taken: place in a buolding in South Bend but did,no damage to,the construction of the buildingt. is due to good design and construction,`Asbestos fibered fireproof plastering and the complete system.
