Dieter at 4:b p~m, in the Council's Informal Meeting Raorn. Persons in attendance included Council Members Pfeifer, Kelly, Darner, Kuspa, Kirsits, Rouse, Dieter and Pu~~ello; Mayor Stephen J. Luecke, Paul J. Meyer, Rich Deahl, Public 1111orks Director Gary pilot, Don [nks, Martha ~e~ris, Rita Kopala, Martin'Ullolfson, Bill challiol, Jamie Lao of the o~~h ~er~~ Tr~r`b~n and Kathleen Cekanski-~'arrand, Council Attorney. Bill chlliol of the Departr~ent of Community ~ Ecanor~ic Development highlighted portions of the December ~ g0~ report copy attached, He noted that the petitioner, the South Bend Clinic, is seeking a special exception in order to receive a b-year real property tax abatement for the construction of their Portage-Brick branch office. The land is current vacant. He then handed out a copy of the January 3, ~gg7 "Public Benefit Paints Summary" ~cop]~ attached}. Ike concluded his remarks by stating that the Department supports the petitioner's request for the ~-year abatement Rich Deahl, an attorney Frith offices located at Sao forth Michigan in dawnto~rn South Bead made the faunal presentation lie Hated that the cast of the proposed medical office building gill be ,g4,Ogg and ~vili have a ~ o~-space paved surface parking lot. The project will maintain nineteen ~1g} exiitn, permanent, full-time jobs and seven ~l} part~time jobs. Paul J. Meyer, Executive Director and Manager of the South Bend Clinic, Lt_P provided a ~-page draviring of the South Bend Clinic ~ SuriCentr ~uhich is proposed copy attached}. He noted that this gill be one of faun locations v~rhich they v~ill have providing medical services in the community. Mr, Meyer noted that some of the physicians utiriil be re-located to this location. Ike added that the property eras annexed into the city in January of OOfi. The development will add a near tax base far this part of the city. January 8, X07 ~munity ~~d Economic Dev~~apment C~r~r~ittee Meeting M~n~tes gage ~ in response to questions from Council Mer~ber Pfeifer Mr, Meyer stated that a total of seven ~~}doctors gill be moved to the neuv location. There gill be primary care medical services and specialty medical services at both the do~rnto~rn location and the Portage- Brick location. In response to a quetian frara Council Member Puz~ello, Mr, Meyer stated that doctors v~rill be coring frarn t~ua ~~} of the satellite offices v~rhich are currently being leased. In response to questions from Council Member irsits, Mr, Deahl stated dirt has been roved at the site but no foundation ar building improvements have started. Mayor Luecke spoke in favor of the requested abatement, Hating that the South fiend Clinic has been a great corporate citizen and that he looks farutirard to goad health care services throughout the city. She then made motion, seconded by Council Member belly that Bili Na. g~-g~ be recan~nended favorably to Council.
