Board met in special session at 9: 00 A.M. All members present.
City Engineer filed with the Board tabulations of bids received
for the pavement on Walnut Street .from Sample Street to Prairie Avenue. The matterof
a preliminary order for the type of material to be used in paving of said above
mentioned sPf aflt fy,94?uss ed by the Board. with to. E. C outer, Civil Engineer and
Mr. Horton of the 0 iver Chilled Plow Works , Attorney A Wolf representing Sanders
& Egbert Company end Harry Sanders. Harry Sanders stated that he was not very
favorable to an alp alt pavement in a factory district and stated that Walnut Street
was not in condition to put in pavement this Fall' on accuutt of the underground
work being just being put in and not being properly tamped and rolled, also the
matter of additional switch tracks would have to be installed prior to laying of
pavement. L. E. Couterip stated that the Oliver Chilled Plow Works was very anxious
to have this street paved and informed the Board that he would see that all under-
ground work would be taken care of and properly tamped, and that he could see no
reason why the switches could not be taken care of also.
The Board after considering this matter made the following preliminary order on
type of pavement for Walnut Street.
Concerning the Improvemebt of the roadway of Walnut Street
from Indiana Avenue to Sample Street in the City of South Bend, Indiana with
asphalt, asphalt block, brick or concrete, in pursuance to Resolution No. 803 this
being the day set for the making of the peeliminary order designating the kind of
pavement, the Board at 10:00 A.M. on tuesday August 17th.,1920 publicly opened, read
and considered all b ids , and then, continued their meeting to Wednesday August lath.
1920 at 10:00 A.M.
Now on last named date the Board designated Sheet Asphalt as the
kind of pavement with which said street is to be improved with and fi xes the 30th.
day of August 1920 at 10:00 A.M. as the time when petitions for changing the kind
of pavement must be filed, and the Board hereby continues this matter until the
31st. day of August 1920 at 10:00 A.M. On the day above named the Board will either
pass on petitions let said contract or reject all bids.
