Climate Change and Bike Safety Training Event
A Climate Change Briefing and Bike Safety Training is scheduled for tomorrow Thursday, April 18",
2019 from 9:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m.at the campus of the University of Notre Dame in conjunction with the
annual "Joy of Saint Joe Community Service Day." This training event is a direct outcome of recent joint
Common Council Committee meetings on the topic of climate change, local impact, and climate action
responses. Councilmember Jo M. Broden (4`h District) has convened the presenting speakers and partners
from the University of Notre Dame, St. Joseph High School, Michiana Council of Area Governments
(MACOG), Bike Michiana Coalition, South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (Transpo), Earth
Charter Indiana, St. Joseph County Health Department, and local Youth Climate Champions (organized
by founder, Julia McKenna). The event is calendared in advance of the South Bend Common Council's
expected legislative action on a resolution concerning climate change on Monday, April 22 at 7pm on the
4" floor of the County -City Building. The Council's action coincides with Earth Day.

A slide package will be shared with each high school student that can later be used in their team -teaching at area elementary
schools. Covered topics will be the causes of climate change (both the science and the societal choices that are driving it),
the impacts on our planet, and specifically the South Bend community, and what they can do as kids to help combat climate
change.
