Upon said hearing nemonstratore appeared bUt no further written -

Hearing had on Improvement Resolution No, 669 for the paving of
Mlohigan,Street from,North Short -Drive to the neLrth li e of Wakews Avenue, in the
City of South Bend, Indlana.
. Upon said 'blaring remonstratorsappeared but no written remonstrance
,was filed. Property owners owing litrge frontage on Michigan Street appeared and
objected to new D&VOMaUt, but stated they would object to a repairing pavement.
The Board after due consideration decided to defer all action on said resolution
unt 11 Wedn esday June 4th. 1919 at 7: 15 P.M.

Allen Street from Van Buren Street to Portage Avenue, in the City of South Bomd,,

Deferred hearing on on grade, cLurbLand walk on South Main Street
from Ewing Avenue to Jay Street., under Improvement' Resolution No. 623. In the
City of South Bend,, Indiana.
Upon said,hearing property owners appeared and stated that they
the Matter Up with the County Cor=IS9sonars about building ciiliert-
.-acaoss Main Street and they stated they could not build-!oulvert tbis*year.
The Board Informed the propertynowners present that they would start a resolution
for a grade cur- and walk on South Main Street as soon as the County Commissioners
would bu*ld a culvert. The Board after due consideration decided to resiend all
former action on this resolution.
A number of property owners residing on South Michigan Street
appeared before the Board and filed petitions for sewer and pavement on South
Michigan Street Property owners present stated they wanted slower to be installed
from end of present sewer to the top of the bill. Communication received from
Loyd H. Lamberson of 3122 So. Michigan Street roquest'Ing thst-zewer and pave
and other improvements be Installed as far. as <grade on U-iobIg"iStreet wW. portk1t
same to be Installed. Same read ant placed on file.
The Board .ordered a resolution propard for sewer on South Michigan
Street from Fairvievr Avarnue, to the top of the hill,

Street from Michigan'Streat to Studebaker Perk. Same read and placed on file.
White omb & Ke ller appeared before the Board and requested permission
to c onnect house at 1711 South Fellows Street to sewer located on said street. Same
granted by the Board.
The Board ordered a resolution prepared for grade cur r) and walk on
Walnut Street from Sample Street to Prairie .Avenue.
Communlcat ion race ived from W. L. Eking Superintendent of the Pittsburg
CinnIc nnati-Chicago & St. Louie R. R, acknowledging receipt of notice relative
t c the c and it ion of the crossing at Kemble Avenue and Pra it ie Avenue, stating that
this matter; will be given necessary attent ion . at once.

The Board ordered that the Central Union Telephone Company be
not if ied to reset to the south to the property line the pole which is in the way
of a driveway at 535 Rivers ide Dr ive,
Street Commissioner D. C. Layton, requested the Board to notify
the City Contractor to`replsce brisk intersections at the southeast corner of Notre
Dame Avenue and La Salle Avenue with cement intersections.
Engineer filed assessment roll and f inal estimate for water connections
on Elder and. Carroll Street from Michigan Street to. Wenger Street in the City of
South Bend, Indiana under Improvement Res olut ion No. 639.
Resolved, that notices as to the assessments be published on the
_ 6th. , day ,of June 1919 and the 13th. , day of June,1919 in the South. Bond Daily Tribune
.stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such assessments at its
off ice in the CSty Hall an the litth., day of June 1919 at 7:15 P.M.
Resolved further that the a t L*e work under the above contract be
accepted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this resolution
shall be published on the 6t h. , day of June 1919 and on the 13th, , deny of June 1919
in the South Berm Daily Tribunes stating that this Board will give a hearing on the
acceptance of such work at its office in the City Hall on the 18th., day of June1919
at 7:15 P.M.

This shall be a construction bond, and the sureties on the same shall
not be held responsible for the maintenance and repair of the improvement after it has
been aocepted;.by the second party,; but such sureties shall be held responsible for the
faithful coaDliea;nce with all other conditions, stipulations and requirements covered by or
set out in the contract.

Street, by paving the roadway of the same, and
WHEREAS, the City Civil Engineer has prepared and filed in the office of this Board. a report show-
ing the number and location of the service pipes, mains, conduits, laterals, and connections which are, or
will be necessary to adcommodate the abutting property and the owners thereof with gas, water, sewer,
and 'other conveniences and necessaries; and also said City Civil Engineer has prepared and filed in said
office specifications showing the material, to be used and the mannerof laying said service pipes, mains,
conduits, laterals and connections from. the mains to the points inside the .curb lines.
THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that
the report of the City Civil Engineer is adopled, and said report and the specifications prepared and filed by
him are made a part of this resolution.as fully and effectually as if copied herein at full length; and it is fur-
ther ordered that all of such private connections with the sewer, gas and water mains be made in said
street by bringing them inside the curb lines thereof.
And be it further resolved that notice by publication for two successive days in the South Bend

Indiana, be given to the owners of the property abutting upon said street to be improved directing them to
make such sewer and water connections on or before the T�e3t.day of, .........:.1919...............................

191........., and that if said connections are not made on;og before said time and in accordance with the speci-
fications and report on file in the office of the Board of Public Works, then said Board will cause the same
to be made and will assess the cost thereof against the property abutting upon said street, and shall do .all
other things pertaining thereto according to the provisions and requirements of Ordinance No. 1842 adopted
by the Common Council of the City of South Bend on July 24, 1916, and of all other ordinances and laws
relating thereto`
And, be it further resolved and ordered that after the 20 day period has elapsed for the making of said,
connections by the property owners, a notice shall be published for two weeks,-, once each "week, in the.
South Bend...TrIt........................................ a newspaper of general circulation published in said city, requesting
bids from contractors for the making of such connections as have not been made by the property owners,'
and such notice shall fix a 'day, not earlier than ten days after the first' of such publications, when 'bids shall
be opened and a contract let for the doing of said work.
And be it further ordered that the Northern Indiana Gas and Electric ,Company, which holds a fran-
chise from, and is empowered by said city to furnish artificial gas to the citizens thereof, and is engaged in
said business in said city, is hereby directed to make and install all service connections with its mains in said
street in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 1555, adopted June 27, 1910, and such other ordi-
nances or laws,applicable thereto;. • which connections are shown upon the report of the City Civil Engineer,

and which are hereby declaredao be necessary in supplying gas to the owners of property abutting upon said
street.
