COX FIRE (THIEF April 3, 2019 Board Members, Over the last several years, the Fire Department has been upgrading its exhaust capture equipment at all fire stations, Diesel exhaust is a known carcinogen, and a reliable and serviceable direct capture exhaust removal system is crucial to successfully fulfilling our community mission, while protecting the health of our firefighters. What began at Station 3 as a test of the Plymovent System has been carried through the remaining stations, with just one install remaining. We ask that the Board approve this Special Purchase pursuant to IC 5-22-10-8. This system attaches to the tailpipe of each apparatus via a magnetic plate, and all SBFD apparatus currently have the necessary receiving system installed on their tailpipes. It is paramount to the operation of the Fire Department that apparatus be able to move freely between stations, and that the exhaust removal system at each facility be compatible. Having differing systems at each facility would create an operational choke point if we couldn't deploy specific apparatus to specific stations without regard to the type and manner of direct exhaust capture available. In summary, please approve this Special Purchase so that we can complete the final installation at our last of 11 facilities that currently lacks the compatible exhaust capture system. Hastings' price includes parts, mechanical installation and System Warranty for 5 YEARS on all PARTS and LABOR. Mechanical and Electrical installation will be provided by Plymovent factory certified installers. Mechanical Installation includes 1 (one) Plymovent SBT-30-MG Track Assemblies. Each SBT Track Assembly includes p three segment hose drop: Upper, Mid and HT Lower Hose Segments. The HT Lower Hose Segment consists of: "Safety Disconnect Handle", HT Hose, Conical Tailpipe Adapter (TPA) and "Magnetic Grabber Nozzle". The "Magnetic Grabber Nozzle" magnetically connects to the "TPA". The TPA is installed on to the Apparatus Tailpipe. Tailpipe modifications will be responsibility of South Bend FD. The "Magnetic Grabber Nozzle" easily and ergonomically connects to the TPA and allows automatic tailpipe release upon the apparatus' exit which limits the Firefighter's exposure to Diesel Exhaust Fumes by virtually 100%. Also included in the installation is a 3 HP, Three Phase TEV fan, a Control Panel and required duct -work. The Ducting is designed to maximize all airflow principles and will be balanced to ensure proper airflow at each drop. Electrical Installation includes required wiring and conduit from the Electric Service Panel to the Safety Disconnect to the Control Panel and to the TEV 3 HP Fan. Low voltage wiring is also included in the Electrical Installation. System Commissioning will be completed and Operation Training will be provided for all department personnel by Hastings upon completion of installation.
