Value stream mapping is a lean technique that allows you to document, analyze, and improve the events that take a product or service from its beginning through to the customer. This technique helps the manufacturer understand the total flow of the value stream, see the sources of waste, determine common language about the process, show links between information and processes, develop an improvement plan, and prioritize activities. Through creation of a VSM, you will learn how to eliminate the waste in the system and achieve dramatic improvements to your processes. Objectives: - Define "value stream" and "value stream map." - Describe the purpose of value stream mapping and how it relates to lean manufacturing. - Describe a basic process for value stream mapping. - Create a value stream map for a specified process. - List the characteristics of a lean value stream. - Identify potential improvements to a value stream map. Intended audience: manufacturing personnel, including technicians, engineers, and managers. Problem Solving Using PDCA, A3, and Root Cause Analysis In this course, participants will learn about the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) problem solving method. In addition, participants will learn about problem solving tools and activities, including A3, root cause analysis, process mapping, cause and effect diagrams, error proofing, and others. Using a variety of real -world scenarios and hands-on activities, participants will practice implementing problem -solving methods and tools. Objectives: - Define "problem" and identify problem -solving skills. - Identify barriers to problem solving. - List the benefits of using a structured problem solving method. - Describe the goals of each Plan -Do -Check -Act (PDCA) step and activities that take place during each step. - Define "root cause" and distinguish between root causes and symptoms. - Document PDCA activities on an A3 template. Intended audience: manufacturing personnel at all levels who want to learn a methodical approach for problem solving or personnel who want to improve their existing problem -solving skills. Lean Consulting Purdue MEP will provide the services of a MEP lean expert for lean training and/or consulting projects. In this case, the training could include 5S, quick changeover, 3P (production planning process), data analysis, more problem -solving implementation, etc. Purdue MEP Center mep.purdue.edu 800-877-5182 Project 918620 Page 7 Summary TOTAL COST FOR Lean Training/Implementation/Consulting for Small South Bend Manufacturing Companies _ $12,000.00 Purdue Staff Point of Contact Dietra Rosenkoetter Senior Industry Advisor Purdue MEP 8626 E. 116th Street, Suite 200, Fishers 46038 (317) 491-0691 dietra@purdue.edu Purdue MEP Center mep.purdue.edu 800-877-5182 Project #18620 Page 8 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AGENDA ITEM REVIEW REQUEST FORM Date 2/22/2019 Name Dan Buckenine er Department DCI BPW Date /1,2/2019 Phone Extension 5328 05555mm rrcr - raiowuuowwomomomonmmmnummrmaenemurme . _ lcqur Prior to Submittal to Board BPW AttorneyA w.
