RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT
COMMISSION, GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND, DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT,
REGARDING THE PROPOSED ADDITION OF THE
ODD FELLOWS BUILDING TO THE WEST WASHINGTON
HISTORIC DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and
St. Joseph County has submitted to the State Historic Preservation Officer
(SHPO) a National Register application for the addition of the Odd Fellows
Building to the West Washington Historic District; and
WHEREAS, the SHPO has requested the comments of the City of South Bend
Department of Redevelopment regarding this matter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Redevelopment Commission of the
City of South Bend that:
The Department of Redevelopment, as owner of the Odd Fellows Building
on behalf of the City of South Bend, does hereby express its objection to the
addition of the Odd Fellows Building to the West Washington Historic District
for the following reasons:
a) The National Register application does not provide sufficient
evidence that the Odd Fellows Building meets the National Register
criteria found at 36 CFR Part 60.
b) The justification for National Register District boundary changes
pursuant to 36 CFR Part 60.16 (a) (2) has not been met.
c) The fact that the Odd Fellows Building is fifty (50) years old
is not sufficient reason for its nomination for inclusion in the
West Washington Historic District.
Adopted at the Regular Meeting of the South Bend Redevelopment
Commission held on the 7th day of December 1979, in the Office of the Commission,
Room 1200, County -City Building, 227 West Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana.
