RESOLUTION NO. 594
RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT
IL COMMISSION, GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND, DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT,
ENCOURAGING THE COMMON COUNCIL OF SOUTH BEND,
INDIANA TO DECLARE CERTAIN PORTIONS OF THE
DOWNTOWN AREA OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, TO BE
AN URBAN DEVELOPMENT AREA FOR PURPOSES OF
I.C. §6- 1.1- 12.1 -1 THROUGH I.C. §6- 1.1- 12.1 -6
INCLUSIVE
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, Department of
Redevelopment is carrying out the Urban Renewal for an area known
as the Central Downtown pursuant to the Urban Renewal plan for the
Project, Indiana R -66; adopted by the Redevelopment Commission, City
of South Bend, Indiana by Resolution No. 233 on the 10th day of
October 1968, and
WHEREAS, the area within the Indiana R -66 Project Area
as it relates to the redevelopment of such area is bounded as follows:
Beginning at a point formed by the intersection
of the north right -of -way line of LaSalle Avenue
and the west right -of -way line of Main Street; thence
south along the west right -of -way line of Main Street
to the north right -of -way line of Washington Street;
thence west along the north right -of -way line of
Washington Street to the west right -of -way line of
LaFayette Boulevard; thence south along the west
right -of -way line of LaFayette Boulevard to the south
right -of -way line of Jefferson Boulevard; thence
east along the south right -of -way line of Jefferson
Boulevard to the west right -of -way line of Main
Street; thence south along the west right -of -way
line of Main Street to the south right -of -way line
of Monroe Street; thence east along the south right -
of -way line of Monroe Street to the west right -of-
way line of Fellows Street; thence south along the
west right -of -way line of Fellows Street to the
south right -of -way line of Monroe Street; thence
east along the south right -of -way line of Monroe
Street and proceeding in a northeasterly direction
along said right -of -way line to the center of the
St. Joseph River; thence proceeding in a north-
westerly direction along the center of the
St. Joseph River to the north right -of -way line of
LaSalle Avenue; thence west along the north
right -of -way line of LaSalle Avenue to the west
right -of -way line of Main Street which is the point
of beginning; a map of which area is attached hereto
and incorporated herein by reference.
WHEREAS, the designation of certain portions of
Disposition Parcel 6 -1 of such downtown area as an urban development
area for purposes of I.C. §6 -1.1- 12.1 -1 through I.C. §6- 1.1- 12.1 -6
inclusive, will materially benefit the City and inhabitants of
South Bend, Indiana, by significantly encouraging the construction,
reconstruction, improvement, and general development of the downtown
area and the buildings and land situated therein.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Redevelopment
Commission, City of South Bend, Indiana, encourages the Common Council
of South Bend, Indiana to act upon a resolution declaring certain
portions of the downtown area of South Bend, Indiana, to be an urban
development area for purposes of I.C. §6- 1.1- 12.1 -1 through I.C.
§6- 1.1- 12.1 -6 inclusive.
FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Redevelopment Commissioners
encourage that the above mentioned Common Council declaratory
resolution include only certain portions of Disposition Parcel 6 -1 in
Project Indiana R -66 boundary, previously described in this resolution.
Said certain portion is further described as follows:
A PARCEL IN THE SOUTHEAST QUARTER AND THE
SOUTHWEST QUARTER OF SECTION 12, TOWNSHIP
37 NORTH, RANGE 2 EAST, ALSO BEING A PART OF
BLOCK 8 OF THE UNRECORDED PLAT OF RIVER BEND
ADDITION, CITY OF SOUTH BEND, ST. JOSEPH
COUNTY, INDIANA, DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS:
Commencing at the intersection of the East -
Right-ofWay line of Columbia Street and the
North Right -of -Way line of Monroe Street; thence
North 890 381 42" East along said North Right -of-
Way of Monroe Street 250.00 feet to the POINT OF
BEGINNING; thence North 00 211 1811 West 55.00
feet; thence North 39° 35' 12" West 67.66 feet;
thence North 520 001 0011 East 343.08 feet; thence
South 38° 421 2111 East 72.09 feet; thence South
00 301 18" East 263.46 feet to the North Right -
of -Way line of Monroe Street; thence 61.24 feet
Westerly on said Right -of -Way line on a curve to
the left having a radius of 614.21 feet and
subtended by a long chord 61.18 feet in length
and having a bearing of North 870 30' 03" West;
thence South 80° 381 4211 West along said North
Right -of -Way line of Monroe Street 213.18 feet
to the Point of Beginning, containing 1.544 acres.
Adopted at the Regular Meeting of the South Bend
Redevelopment Commission held on the 5th day of October 1979,
in the Office of the Commission, Room 1200, County -City Building,
227 West Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana.
