Messrs. Plats & Gill contractors on the E. C. Westervelt property
Known as the Bissell Bhilled Plow Works located on lots 13.14 and, 15 Manufacturers
Add it ion on ,E . Colfax Avenue, under c ondemnat ion, by the Building Department, appeared
before the Board in regard to extension of. t ime` on notice. This matter was continued
until Friday December 27th. ,1918 at 10: 00 A.M.
County 'Commissioner' Edward Zeitler appeared before the Board
and stated that hhe County Commissioners have a petition for the improvement of the
road from the City Limits to the termination of the present pavement on Edwardsburg
Road by paving same with asphaltic concrete, and requested the Board of Works to have
co-operate with them by installing a pavement to the City limits on South Bend Avenue
from where pavement now ends in City. The matter was discussed by the Board and the
Board decided to start a resolution for the paving of South Bend Avenue to the City
Limits the advertisement to run concurrently with the improvement resolution of the
County and bids to be let by the City to the same contractor that County does to do the
same contract. °
It was ordered by the Beard that the salary of Charles Johnson
Janitor of City Hall be dnereased from$85.00 per month to $100.00 per month, same to
start January lst.,1919.

and following resolution adopted.

Court in the above entitled cause to re -appraiser the benefits, if any there - lie,
acerus ing to the real &state described in the petition filed herein.

1918, they viewed the premises and the improvement and find thw assessment compl&fined
of ta• be. excessive, and further find that said real estate is or will. be benef itted by
such improvement in the amount of $1,315.67

Volume 4, the Board of Public Works of this _City of South Bend, do hereby certify that on
the 29th.9 day of October 1918 Jacob M. Chillas, Clem W. Studebaker et al filed on
appeal in the Superior Court of St. Joseph County frcm°the decision of the Board of -
Public Works confirming the assessment against the property of said parties as described
the final assessment roll under Improvement Resolution No. 503 of the City of South
Bend, known as the High Street and Ewing Avenue Trunk sewer system.
That th - appraisers appointed by the Superior Court of St. Joseph
County, to -wit:- Vernon C. Hastings, Herman Tohulka, Schuyler Robinson, did can the 24
day of December 1918°file with this'Beard a copy of the`appraisers report now on
file in the Superior Court in said proceedings a copy of said`- report `new on file
on the Superior Court . in said ' proceedings a ` copy of said report is hereto attached
marked " Exgibit "A" and made` -a part hereof by the terms of which report said
assessment is reduced from $2,631.34 as shown `by said assessment roll confirmed
by the Board ed the 23rd., day of, etvber 1918, to $1015.67 as shown by the copy
of the appraisers report,filed with this Board,on the 24th. day of December 1918,

Petition presented by Coube i1mn John Ole jniezak for a light
on Ford Steet south on Grant 'and north of New Jersey Tracks. Same referred to
Pole and Wire Inspector investigate and report to the -Board.
Committee on .Christman tree c lebrat ion requested ( that lights
be turned out on South Mddh Stre t between Wash. Ave. and Jefferson until five
twenty (5:20P.M.). The same was granted.
Communication received fipm the Chicago, South Bend & Northern
Indiana Railway Company in regard to the itching of coal cars for the water works
department. The read and referred to the department.
Renewal certificates were filed as follows: -

on $1,000.00 Excavation bond of J. H . Hawblitzsl
Renewal certificate filed by the Aetna Casualty and Surety Co.,
on 0,000,00 excvat ioli bond of L. E. Albright.

Monthly report of the Building Department read and approved.
The following notice was approved and ordered sent to J. A. Nikart,
Bissell Chilled Plow Company, H. E. & E. C. Westervelt,
You are hereby notified that the Building Commissioner has filed
with this Board his orders directing you to tear down and remove a one story frame
building and a two scorn brick and concrete building located on lots 13,14, and 15
Manufacturer's Addition to the City of South Bend, and notice to vacate the latter.
That he. has filed his recommendations in this matter, and has informed the Board that
you have failed to comply with said orders in the time fixed therein.
You are hereby notified to appear before the Board on Tuesday
December 31st., 1918 at 10:00"A.M. to show cause why said building should not be
repaired torn down or removed.
