The Board unanimously decided and ordered that E. R. Austin Architect
be employed to examine the east wall of 'the aff ice of the hoard of Public Works,
to make pland and spec if icat ions and submit estimated cost of the extens ion of the
wall to the east as far as possible with a view of enlarging the Board of Public
Works office For the use of the Water Works Department.
l Fngineer filed assessment.roll and final estimate far Sheet Asphalt
pavement on Portage Avenue from alley north of Kinyon Street to north City Limits,
under Improvement Res olut ion No. 579. In the City of South . Bend, Indiana.
Resolved, that notices as to the assessments be published for six
consecutive days in the South Bend Daily Tribune, c ommene ing on the 16th. , dy of
December 1918 stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such
assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 23rd.9 day o-f December_ 1918 at
7: 15 POV-
Res olved further, that the° eat ire work under the above contract be -
accepted and approved and the :final estimate thereon allowed. Novice of this resolu-
t ion shall be published on the l6th. , day of December 1918 in the South :Bend Daily
Tribune, stating that this Board will give a hearing on the acceptance of such work
at its off ice in the C ity Hall on the 23rd. , day of December 1918 at 7:15 P.M.
In regard to compiaint rece°ived° about Sur wire which in the way of
a garage building at the rear of 713 Lincoln Way East, the Board ordered the Central
Union Telephone Company not if ied to reset this pole to the north 'twenty feet.
In regard to complaint about pole at rear of 908 Portage Avenue being
in the way of new building, the Board ordered the C. U. Tel. Company notified to
remove this guy wire at once.

Gentlemen:
At the time the assessment rolls on the High Street and Ewing
Avenue trunk sewer and the Jefferson Boulevard Asphalt pavement were Confirmed, the
Controller was instructed to withhold pact bf the money due' the contractor§ until
certain work had been done to place the streets in better condition.
This work has been done, and I therefore recommend that the Con-
troller be instructed to release the money withheld.
