Board met in special session at 10: 00 A.M. All members -present.
The following resolutions were approved by the Board.
R E S O L U T I O N.
WHEREAS, the' Board of '-Public ;forks have under consideration the.
letting of a contract for the improvement of Portage Avenue by pavement from galley north.
of Kinyon.Street t0 North City Limits,. under Improvement Resolution No. 579, and the legal
time: for the letting of the contract expires on Saturday September loth.,, 1918, and w1hereas
it is the desire of the' Board to take advantage of the present bids in the event the
Government acts favorable on material in favor,of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
And Whereasip the City of South Beni is in receipt of a letter from
the White -Construct icon Company, under date of September llth. ,1918 which letter reads.

ment of Portage Avenue from., Kin.yon. Street. to. the. Ctty Limits; -can be awarded is Friday
Sept., 13th.91918. We wish, to advise, that, if. this contract is. awarded to us, that we
will be very glad to cancel. the. contract and release. the. City of South Bend in the,
event that the Federal Government does not permit us to proceed with the work.

THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works, that the
contract for the improvement of Portage Avenue from alley north oi Kinyan Street to
north City Limits, under Improvement Resolution No. 579 is hereby awarded to the White
Construction Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as per the form of resolution this day
signed and approved and subject to the condition named in their letter of" above date,
R E S 0 L U T I 0 N.
Concerning the improvement of the roadway of Portage Avenue from
alley north -of Kinyon Street to north City limits in pursuance to Resolution No. 5799 the
Board finds that no petition has been filed with said Board by a. majerity in number of the
freeholders residing on said street to be improved requesting that it be improved with a
different kind of pavement than the kind heretofore adopted by the Board in its preliminary
order; 4nd the City Engineer reports that The White Construction Company is the lowest
and best bidder for the kind of pavement heretofore adopted by the Board, and the Board
find that said Wh.e White Construction Company is the lowea.t and beat bidder and hereby let€
the contract for said improvement to him, and carders that said improvement be made with
Trinidad Natural Lake Sheet Asphalt and all proceedings heretofore had din this matter are
hereby confirmed and ratified.

Engineer filed assessment roll and final estimate for asphaltic concrete
pavement on Blaine Avenue from Lincoln Way West to Bortage Avenue, under Improvement
Resolution No. 560, in the City of South Bend, Indiana..
Resolved, that notices as. to the amounts of assessments be published for
six consecutive days in the South Bend Daily Tribune, commencing on the 16th.0 day of
September 1918, stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such
assessments at its office in the City Mall on the 25th. , day of September 1918
at 7:15 P. M.
r { Resolved further, that the entire work under.,the above contract be
accepted and approved and the finsa,l estim&te thtereon allowed. Notice of this r I
resolution shall be published or the 16th.0 nay of September 1918 in the South Bend
Daily_ Tribune, stating .that ;this Beard will give a hearing on the acceptnee of such
work_ at its ,gaff ice in_ the City Hall on the 25th. , da.y . of September 1918 at 7:15 P.M.

matter , and moving of garage from 1206 So. Franklin Street to east side of river.
